So I’m in the market for a clip-on thermal. I was looking at the AGM clip-ons. This one is the cheapest they have. I had been looking at one that cost 2k but the differences are marginal. The one for 2k says it can go out much further. I live in the mountains of NC and hunt pigs in costal GA. The furthest shot I’ll ever take is maybe 150 yards, though most shots are less than 50 yards. Does this look like a good clip on for the job? Is there a better brand I should be looking at? Also this will work in front of an Acog correct? I have a couple scopes to use it with but that’s my main hog killing optic. RATTLER-C V2 19-256 |

| IMHO you're better off with a stand alone TWS vs using it as a clip on due to weight, bulk,etc. Using a quality QD mount for your day optic and thermal will allow you to switch between as needed without the hassle of rezeroing everytime. If you need the capability to quickly detach or flip your therma out of the way then I can see the justification for a clip on. If that is the case then you'd want to use an LPVO/ prism optic with a 1X magnification. A 4X ACOG and whatever you base magnification of your TWS the image is going to suck when trying to use it. Also for a decent budget TWS look at the DNT Hydra series optics. I've ran the H335 for a while now and it's been great so far. |

So even the ones that are made specifically for this purpose aren’t very clear? I know lower resolution optics would have that problem. I thought a dedicated 640 clip on would be clear. Some of them list what magnifications they work well with. Most say up to 10x. I’m not trying to challenge what you’re saying. I have zero experience with a clip on thermal. Just trying to figure them out. |

My remarks where referring to TWS in similar price and performance. The higher resolution and the more money you spend the better performance. Although IMHO you'd be better off using a optic/TWS mount that will RTZ reliably and swap between the 2 as needed. You'll cut down on bulk and weight which for me is a huge consideration. |

Just in case the OP is not aware you cannot just add most of the nonmilitary commercial clip-ons onto your rifle and go. Most of the nonmilitary commercial thermal clip-ons have to be digitally colllimated to your day optic. Some clip-ons have the ability to save the zero for multiple day optics and some do not. There are even some high-end military thermal clips on that had to be collimiated and some could not even be colliminated. |

You need to colimate the clip on for the rifle and optic but that’s not a big deal unless you want to use multiple rifles or optics. Some clip ons can store multiple settings. I’ve used several Guide clip ons and the 640 look fantastic. One I have not used but would look at is the Liemke Luchs eurooptic The reason is the picatinny mount. You will need a pic mount if you are going to use the ACOG and the guide Orion pic mount looks bit hokey although it works just fine |

Well I got a smoking deal on a AGM Rattler TC50-640. I got it from Amazon, so I can send it back if it’s not going to work out. The mounting to some scopes seems like it can be an issue because I’m not sure I’ll be able to get all the accessories anymore. I guess they stopped making this one a little while ago. So to colimate the optic. This is zeroing it to the day optic correct? Does anyone know if this optic can store info for different optics? I have at least three I would like to the ability to use it on. I didn’t see anything about that which makes me think it’s not an option. I previously had a Armasight clip on night vision optic that I was able to use on everything as long as it was above 3x. |
Went back and watched this vid again and he says at just after the 10:10 mark that the AGM can save multiple profiles. Thermal Scope Vs Clip On- Side by Side Compare NV clip-ons work differently than thermal clip-ons and that is why your Armasight worked across various platforms. With NV you are looking through the unit that has been optically aligned to a certain degree of MOA. With thermal you are looking at what amounts to a tv screen. That screen most will most likely have to be moved for POA/POI, again colliminated. |

| Well, it was a far jump from the $800 thermal I was looking at but I bought a 640 Armasight Jockey. They say they don’t need zeroing. It looks like it has everything I want in a thermal. Also an Amazon purchase so if I don’t like it, it’s going back. I’ll let you all know. |
