I have a NIB unfired late Huntsville production ACR that I want to sell. It is in 450 Bushmaster. What should I set for price? I don't really want to deal with Gunbroker either. |

Late Huntsville production, so black, folding stock, squaredrop handguard? 16 or 18” barrel? Other accessories? Are you wanting to maximize the value or the speed? Franklin Armory was trying to sell the last of the old stock .450 ACRs they got after buying the Bushmaster property for $6000 and it sat for months so that’s probably a solid ceiling.  They seem to get bid up to the 2000-3000 range for the most part, depending on the specifics. There are a couple listed on the EE and GB that are above that, and one active auction for a 5.56 that’s at 2200-ish right now and has another 7 days. The higher ones seem to be sitting. If you were hoping to get the most for it, start at 3k and work your way down. Moving it quick would probably be under 2300-2500. Hopefully other smarter peoples can chime in too for some alternative opinions.  The factory .300 and 6.8 guns were probably more rare, and I usually saw the .450 sit more available online. It was a weird product, a very hunting specific caliber in a very modern tactical rifle. So it’s very niche which could help or hurt the price depending on the specific buyer. I wouldn’t be surprised if whoever ends up buying it intends to convert it to 5.56. |

Local consignment isn’t going to net you much - you’d have to make the price so low that the uninformed bubbas would gamble on it. The flip side of “don’t lowball me, I know what I got” is bubba’s “I don’t know what that is, so I’m gonna lowball you!” . ETA - they aren’t going to know or care about the developmental history, the evolution of Windham, Ilion, and Huntsville guns, the caliber change potential, etc. It will basically be a funny looking and extra expensive AR15 in a hunting caliber to them. The ACR itself is pretty valuable, even in .450. Late production Huntsville guns were really good in quality, they knew what they were doing at that point. But we’re internet nerds and we know that. It really is an ideal candidate for a 5.56 rebuild since it may just be transplanting the gas system/piston components to a new barrel.I swore off GunBroker too after two really awful experiences in 2008/2009. I think if you looked at the EE here and came in aggressively under the listed guns you might move it, but you’ll be doing all the shipping and FFL legwork, which is oodles of fun if you’re not close to a hub or dealer that’ll ship for you. You might even try reaching out to Dana at Templar Precision and see if he has any recommendations on places to post it since he’s pretty much of the master of ceremonies when it comes to the ACR now. |
