TNVC just completed Fall 2026 season kick off with Night Fighter 101 class Great Falls Montana. The Great Falls PD and Cascade County Sherrif’s department host us, and they provide awesome support and training environments. We love coming up here and training in the great wide open. This class had was almost entirely comprised of LEO, save three students. This made our job very easy as everyone was professional and safe. We had a group of LEO from Utah, two LEO sniper competition winners from Washington state, and a couple officers from South Dakota. We greatly appreciate it when officers are willing to travel so far to get trained on their gear! This class was a race against the weather. Both nights we watched thunderstorms in the distance making for some great views. On night two the instructor staff were expecting to have to break from training as the skies darkened and the wind picked up a little. The previous week Great Falls experienced a wind storm with 80 MPH winds that knocked down trees and more importantly GFPDs targets as they conducted training. The weather held out and we only got a light rain for about 30 min. This class had a healthy mix of goggles from across the spectrum of manufacturers (TNVC, Steele, L3/Harris) with a wide assortment of housings (fixed and articulating binoculars along with one or two monoculars). This mix drove good discussions on the set up and use of our goggles…with many “AHA” moments when we drove the goggles forward on the mount arm and used a slight upward tilt. Lights and lasers are a key component of the application of technology, and all students took away that they are complementary and not contradictory. If I can see good with goggles, and “gooder” with an IR illuminator…why wouldn’t I want to see “goodest” with an application of white light? When positive identification has to be made in a restrictive environment, sometimes the application of white light and observation through our goggles is perfectly acceptable. Not many issues with gear during this class. Even with the array of ARs and MP5s we only had three issues that come to mind. Which reminds me, please make sure you tighten your suppressors before stepping up to the firing line. They were not meant to be a last-ditch blunt force projectiles! The only other problem we had was a laser that was walking away on one student and a mag that was inducing double feeds. Magazines are expendable items. Find the one that is causing you problems and throw it away! Finally, our goal is to help all comers get competent, confident and capable with their application of technology, this great group of students came away saying they felt they were getting there…well done fellas. Additionally, several companies stepped up to offer students swag and door prizes for their attendance. We are grateful their generosity and are proud to have them associated with our classes.
