 TNVC just completed our Night Fighter 101 class at our “home” range in Alliance, Ohio on April 5-6. A Night Fighter 201 was being taught in Alliance as well. Due to the unique ability to train 201 students “off campus” after night 1 allows us to run both classes on the same weekend without conflict. Alliance is a staple in our training locations and many of the TNVC Training cadre know each other because they met as students in other classes in Alliance. This was a full class and had a good mix of LEO, experienced students, NV first timers, and one repeat NF101 student. Weather was on par with TNVC’s spring season (we are looking into one of our instructors being a rain God). The students and cadre were rained on the first day but toughed it out, accomplishing everything on the schedule for day one. Day two had the cadre racing the clock to get the students off the range before the snow started to fall. Being Alliance the weather shifted and the snow fell early giving a nice effect to our student’s last evolution. The class had a healthy mix of night vision goggles, lasers, and lights including some very obscure brands. This assortment of gear with the minor issues that occurred proved to be a critical thinking challenge to the cadre as some of the equipment they had never seen before. All problems were worked out and class continued as usual. Having a wide variety of lights and lasers also allows us to demonstrate the differences between them to the class. Aside from the technology we also had a few minor gun issues. We had one rifle, on night one, go down hard. Luckily the student had a backup that was an Ar-15 and he was able to complete the class. Maybe there is a reason the military has used them for so many years. All other issues happen on night two and seemed to be caused from a lack of lubrication between training days. A two day class doesn’t sound that long but gun lube should go everywhere your rifle does. Night Fighter 101 is the first step into becoming someone who is “confident, competent, and capable” in the use of night vision technology and leads directly into our Night Fighter 201, where we continue to expand on the principles learned in Night Fighter 101. We are proud to be associated with the Alliance Police training facility, and we cannot say enough good things about the work Joe Weyer does to help us have great classes. If you have the chance to train there, you should really take advantage of it. Great location, amazing training opportunities and some super trainers train there. Additionally, several companies generously stepped up to offer students swag and such for their attendance. We really appreciate their generosity and are proud to have them associated with our classes.
