Having recently been notified of some Sandcutter carriers at Centurion, I figured it would be a good time to put hands on one and do a little comparison to the KAC sandcutter I purchased many years ago. Attached File KAC's on the left, Monty's on the right. Both are full-auto profile. The first difference I noted were the T-OCKS screws in the key. I've never had a carrier with them installed from the factory. The finish is different from the KAC, and the KAC has been living in my "mostly accurate" Christmas Cheer rifle for a while. The color difference is obvious, and a closer viewing of the sand cuts reveals a difference in machining dimensions. I have not oiled or shot the Centurion yet. Attached File The nickel boron bolt in the Centurion was a spare bolt I had and decided to build it into another BCG once it arrived. Weights are very similar to each other as well. Attached File Attached File Removing the components from each yielded the same variance in weight for the empty carriers. Attached File Attached File I will be configuring the rifle with the Centurion carrier with an intermediate gas barrel. Intermediate gas systems are .4" longer than the KAC legacy/mod1 gas port location, but I expect it to be a very smooth shooter either way. I don't know when I'll be taking it to the range, but when I do, I'll be sure to run several magazines through it to see how tricky it is to clean once fouling is introduced to it's operation. |

i ran one of Monty's sandcutter carriers along with his tapered bolt in my "KS-1 we have at home" project. after a case of wolf gold i pulled the barrel and BCG. i couldn't see any notable markings or differences in receiver or barrel extension wear compared to the KAC Sandcutter and E3.1 bolt under the same firing schedule. as noted previously the coloration is probably the reason for it to have the blem mark. when new, mine was almost the exact same color as the KAC Sandcutter. |

Good to know. I've got the barrel ordered now, and as soon as it comes in, I'll have to figure out which receiver set I want to drop it in. Then handguard and muzzle device. I will be pin gauging the gas port to see what it is drilled to. |

I was able to run to UPS to pick the barrel up today. Massive props to Sol for the included Ramen  The barrel is a nice piece, pre dimpled for a single setscrew. Once I figure out what kind of gas block I'll be installing, I'll use my dimpling jig to establish a 2nd dimple on the gas journal. Attached File The weight of the barrel is pictured below. Attached File I have a KAC E3 legacy gas tube in my parts inventory, and a stainless rifle length to compare the differences of where they'll end up in the gas key. You can tell why a KAC E3 gas port is closer to the chamber and a rifle length tube would be too long. Attached File Attached File I was able to secure another barrel from @5L33P3R and 2 gas tubes, plus a gas block. He was extraordinarily kind and effective in his communication plus a fast shipper. The additional gas tube being shipped to me with the other pieces we worked a deal on will end up on this barrel. I'm trying to come up with a handguard solution that allows me to incorporate some FDE URX 3 panels plus a Magpul MOE+ grip. I think a stainless barrel and chrome BCG on FDE receivers and handguard would look PDC. |

Glad i could help man. the gas tube needed for the barrel is a 13.65" Intermediate (as opposed to the 13.25" Intermediate since that length varies by MFG) anxious to see the KAC Gas tube compared to the ones in route to you. Edit: by the way, Adam did a great job with these barrels as well as the Phos./Chrome Lined version. you'll be very happy. |
