Had the neck of a 300 Blk cartridge blow off and is now stuck in the chamber right where the neck should be. This happened because I make my own brass from 5.56 and I used a neck turner on the case. Apparently I went too far down the neck and into the shoulder. The case that came out was perfectly round and smooth where the neck separated. Of course, it is not proud of the bore, so can't use a dowel down the barrel to push it out. Tried a new brush to see if the friction could push it, but nope, it's stuck. I imagine there's some carbon and residue crud that's helping to hold it tight, so it's soaking over night to see if that helps. Beyond that, not sure how to get it out, short of going to a smith. Ideas? |

45 cal stainless steel brush , run it in from chamber end till broken neck is about halfway down the length of the brush. Bristles will be folded back hard enough that when you pull out the brush your broken case will come with it. |

You may consider a broken shell extractor. They have the 308 or 30-06 that slides up and hooks the case mouth. You'll have to carefully drive it out with a cleaning rod from the muzzle since the extractor won't grab the rim. Most likely what the "smith" will use.

| Other method the smith will use if the shell extractor fails is chamber casting with Cerrosafe. A bit more involved since the barrel is pulled from the upper. Cerrosafe melts at boiling water temp and cools rapidly to cast chambers and is used by smiths to determine chamber specs. It cools and is driven out by a cleaning rod. |
