I am building a 14" 870 SBS and I could use suggestions on a weapon mounted light. The caveat is that I need it to fit in a 3 1/4" in wall gun safe, so my choices become limited. The Surefire 6P foreends look cool, but are $$$ and the light will protrude significantly from the end of the barrel. Streamlight TLRacker foreends are reasonably priced and fit my needs, but I don't like that the grip area is so much lower than the magazine tube if that makes any sense. I'm strongly considering a Magpul foreend, mounting a G2X light on the bottom, and using a tape switch to activate with my thumb. Seems overly complicated though. Feel free to pick on my bad idea. If you can find an old police SF pump, they are great for what they are. I don’t find them the most comfortable thing to do a day of shooting, but I trust it as my HD gun, because it’s the most ergonomic way to produce light from a pump gun. I’ve also used a Magpul forend on my 590 with a pic rail, VTAC light mount, and SF Z2 combat light with a tape switch (shit I had laying around) , and a MLOK tape switch mount. It was also functional, the forend was more comfortable when shooting. But it was not as “streamlined.” |

I'm building the same shotgun. I tried the Magpul forend with a cantilever rail, light, and pressure pad. It will work and it isn't horrible but you will be happier with a SureFire forend. In the last couple of days I have seen the DSF 870 on Gunbroker for $200 plus shipping. | Yes. The Surefire LM1 and LM2 heads will fit any of the 600 and 900 series forends but they are expensive. I have two 618 forends that I put $20 led bulbs in that work fine. I have had one of them for about 20 years. I did the same thing with my duty shotgun with no issues. A company called Malkoff Devices also make upgrades for them. The 300 and the DSF series are already led. |

I'm going to put one of the LM heads on the future SBS, I just haven't decided which one yet. At one point many, many moon ago, the Malkoff Device was about the only upgrade for these forends. I am glad that has changed. |
| I figured they did but I wasn't sure. I know Surefire has had some weirdness over the years- I've got one of the E2Os with the "incorrect" head that came that way from Surefire that I need to upgrade. I know there's a module for it but I've never pulled one apart. |

| I have magpul forend on my 12" 870, a piece of rail, and a TRL HD. One thing to note is without the light on, that rail will smack your thumb if you're not paying attention. Significantly. |

Only two I've found that work for me with no wires: 1. very cheap mount haley used with a handheld light mounted to the barrel of his M4. Can't remember the name. It's so simple it works. 2. pic rail mounted on magpul forearm or ahead of forearm that is shorter. Mount your SF pistol light on that. Both are simple, both use stuff I already had on hand, both are less expensive than my old department shotguns, and both just keep working. |

The DSF changes the balance on a 14” much more than on an 18”. Both are totally fine, but the 14” will feel much more front heavy than on an 18”. Not a big deal, but you’ll notice it immediately |
