| Has anyone here built an ar15 using this cartridge? Is it just a barrel change? What were the results. It seems the BC of 6mm bullets would be better, and velocity would be on par with the .224 cal bullets for the heavier projectiles but 6mm offers heavier projectiles. I also have a bolt action I would like to try this on. I reload, so I know equipment would have to be purchased to make this possible since it's an old wildcat cartridge. |

It's an old benchrest wildcat from the 60's, so it's been around for awhile. I assembled my ar with a $120 stoner 20" 6x45 barrel from midway 15 or so years ago. Use redding 2 die full length set, winchester 223 brass, cci41, data 68 powder. Loaded mostly hornady 87gr v-max with & without tip. And speer 100gr btsp. It's accurate when I do my part, and works well on feral hog & deer. iircc les baer & some others made/sold ar's & ammo for 6x45 a while back. Kimber & several others made/sold bolt rifles too. If you know any south africans, ask them, most seem to have used 6x45 rifles.

Unless you intend to shoot deer beyond 600 yards, which I consider unethical anyway, you really don't need super fast twist barrels in any 6mm chambering. .243 ammo is everywhere in many different bullet weights and designs. |
