| I just bought a 590a1 sbs. My question is with loads like flight control is it still worth it to send the barrel to vang comp to be ported? |

It's the back-boring and lengthening of the forcing cone that Vang does as part of the Vang Comp System that improves shot patterns. https://vangcomp.com/about/ ETA: they offer a "flight control" option that still does the porting for recoil/muzzle flip/flash control but reduces how much they back-bore the barrel but will still improve groups with slugs (and less lethal). |

Everything I've read about the VC system seems to be a proven system. But I do have to question regarding the barrel length he applies his system to. I am assuming the OP is looking to improve a created SBS. What length? Physics tell me that the VC system may require a longer than SBS length barrel. Just a thought. Incorporating the VC system in say a 14" barrel might be a big ask. A quick call or message to VC should net the needed info. |

Vang has been doing short barrels forever. If you are running Flight Control the consensus is that you don't need it. The Vang system works great with cheaper buckshot that doesn't pattern as well. They actually do a service optimized for Flight Control but their warning says they don't guarantee it will work with other buckshot. FLIGHTCONTROL OPTIMIZED – we only recommend the for people who ONLY shoot Flitecontrol ammo. It’s comprised of Lengthened forcing cone, SLIGHT backbore, VCS Ports. Look at this mod as sort of a barrel accurizing service. *The Vang Comp guarantee of 10-12″ patterns at 25 yards with good quality buckshot is not a guarantee with this service. Vang Comp does not take credit or blame for the buckshot patterns through this bore. This was designed specifically for a Law Enforcement agency that was ONLY ever going to shoot FliteControl ammo and still wanted our Recoil Reduction, Muzzle Flip Reduction, Muzzle Flash Reduction, and better grouping with slugs and less-lethal. |

I had a 870 factory rifle sighted 14in bbl sent to them. Had it ported and the VCS but not optimized for flight control as the barrel had a modified choke. I had it for a year or two but I couldn't warm up to the rifle sights and ended up getting rid of it. If I were to do it again I would probably skip the porting (or honestly sending it in all together), I don't think it really did much. It did tighten up the pattern. With most non FC ammo it was slightly larger than what I would see with FC in a cyl choked barrel. What choke is your barrel? If its cyl or imp I honestly would save the money and use it on ammo. |

You aren't going to hurt anything they are talking about the best fit and the solution for Flight Control is not the solution for most other buckshot. If you are planning on using a shotgun you need to get out and pattern it with the different loads you want to use. Before Flight Control and similar stuff a lot of Buckshot patterned like shit so Vang's system was an actual game changer. If you take your gun out to the distances you intend to shoot and it works you might decide you don't need it. It's nice being able to turn to Flight Control and have a very capable setup with a stock barrel. |

I will say the lop is just a bit long. It’s manageable but not ideal. I ordered a Magpul sga for it. I have some esstac shit cards coming for it or so I think. I ordered them on the 12th but as of yesterday they had not shipped yet.  |

Magpul sga is on and I added the kick eez sentinel concepts recoil pad and a esstac shell card. They should come this way from the factory. The adjustability of LOP is fantastic. I put one spacer in but I might add another. The other big difference is wasn’t expecting is how much lighter it feels now. I don’t know the actual weight savings but it honestly feels about two pounds lighter.

Looks great! I was gifted a 590sbs yesterday. Did the eform yesterday. Hopefully it gets approved soon and I can pick it up. Already have the Magpul SGA ready. Has anyone here modified the Magpul MOE forend for this? Or should I just keep the factory forend with with loop thing? The only shotgun ammo I have is the Federal FliteControl 00 buck so I hope it works well. |
