Working on a 300 grn FN/HP load currently, first time running these through my marlin trapper and here’s the results. Marlin 1895 trapper magpul edition with 46 hybrid dtm. New starline brass. Sierra 300 grn FN/HP. 59 grns IMR 4064, minimum load, going to work up to max 62grns. 1800 fps 5 shot with a 3.2 SD. Shot pretty good at 100 yds, about 2” 5 shot group. Recoil is heavy but suppressor definitely helps tame it down.

I have a few. 325 grain FTX that gives pretty good velocity. The cases need to be trimmed shorter than SAAMI standard 430 grain underwood hardcast powder coated for bear country 405 grain coated hardcast handload. I'm running it at book max but the MV is a little disappointing. I need to get back to work on that one and spice it up a bit. There's still plenty of room in the case for more powder! |

Also have a good subsonic load for it. Hornady 410 grn subx bullets 13 grns titegroup Would like to slow it down about 50 fps but it’s very accurate at 50 yds First shot in the circle then adjusted and put 4 together so not sure if I want to mess with it, most accurate subsonic load I shot so far. Shot this load in the winter and will try again in warm weather to see how much velocity changes.

I bought factory Hornady 410 subsonic and they use the shorter brass so I won’t reload it. I use standard length for everything. ETA: the Hornady factory subsonic didn’t group very well and velocities were all over the place, if I remember they went from 950 to 1050fps, probably explains why they didn’t group well. |

Working this 300 grn load up for bear season and would like to be able to shoot out to about 200 yds if I can get good accuracy at that distance. Next range trip I’ll see what the drop and accuracy is at 200. |

I had to be an early adopter. Bought mine the first year marlin made them. I have yet to have any reloads disappoint. They all toss decent groups, really without a lot of POI change. The gummy tips 325 gr I think, fly about 6” higher . About the flex tips, be aware that brass is about .10 shorter. Hornady has the correct length in their manual. I didn’t know and loaded some in regular brass and they don’t feed that long. Pretty accurate, I can get 3 into 1.5” but the next couple always turn it into 3”. 2x glass makes it hard too. Great elk gun within its range. I swear a 4x or LPV with the appropriate reticle marks could make it a 300+ yard gun. I’ve settled on the 405 gr JSP Remington bullets. About 1450 fps. I’ve run some stuff in the 400+ gr tips up to 1800. No more, the recoil is brutal. They are fun and the best for elk in timber. Attached File I’m glad they changed that lever to something bigger. Mine is too small. Damn thing was cutting me on recoil till I took the dremel to the edges. |
