Is this normal? This Williams spur is even ramped like it was designed for the bolt to ride over it. There was a small line when I got the gun recently and I went ahead and filed it down a small bit with a half round file to reduce the friction. The only new hammer ext I could find on the market appears to stickup even higher despite being spec'd for the correct model, pre-57 336. Attached File Attached File |

| My Marlin hammer spurs are round. The bolt does not contact them. If I wanted to use the hammer spur you have I would relieve the area where the bolt touches it with a dremmel tool or round file allowing adequate clearance. The cheap way to make the work area dark is a sharpie marker. |

Luckily its aluminum so it'll wear faster that the steel bolt but the top of the Williams spur is very thin at the beginning and still hits. I went ahead and ordered the round one to see if it clears without mods. |

I'm wondering if the wrong spur was installed as there isn't much meat to shave off at the front of the spur but the rear is much thicker. I've done a lot of dremel-smithing before so I'm going to see how far I can take it down and if I ruin it where it bends before it get tight no biggie as the GrovTec one is OTW and its steel. From what I can tell, the GrovTec one still hits but the bolt rides on a smooth piece of steel instead of serrated aluminum (maybe?). Attached File Attached File Attached File |

Now I'm sure this wasn't the right spur for this year model. Removed so much material to clearance the bolt that I expect it to deform at some point. The steel GrovTec one is on the way anyhow. It was a fun morning project to drink coffee over. If I keep it I'll coat it in this black ceramic engine paint that I use for cover ups on cheaper blued guns. | Received the Grovtec extension and it doesn't clear the bolt either. Emailed them to 1st make sure the one I received wasn't mislabeled. I like it better and if I need to clearance it at least it's steel so i don't have to worry about it being weakened after grinding material off of it. The round extension just is so much easier to cock and lower the hammer with than the flat Williams ext. |

Modified the GrovTec extension, refinished the bare metal with ceramic engine paint. I did measure 0.12 mm spread in the steel extension when the set screw is tightened but since I'm not a mechanical engineer i have no idea if that indicates the slot may open up further. I cut a small groove for the the set screw in the hammer and used loc-tite, SFSG. Now I see why Marlin used these round extensions, 10x better than the flat Williams type. Attached File |
