I just learned some reloaders are resizing 277 Fury cases to .308. Along with that there is mention of being able to take advantage of the hybrid case to load at higher velocity The hybrid case is listed as having 80k pressure limit. Assuming a modern bolt action this could really spice up the .308. Has anyone here done this or know anything about it? |

| American reloading has been selling loaded 308 with those cases. It's only loaded to standard pressure though. I assume they couldn't sell the brass and figured this was the best option. |

It ran fine and grouped well at the 25 yards where I was shooting it. I reloaded the brass, which went well. No complaints. If they keep it cheap, I'll probably break down and buy a bunch of it. |

American Reloading is where I ran across it. Asked Grok for info and got a few links to forums. I have read enough that I am going to try it out. Next up is determining what powder to use. should be easy enough to get a 150gr bullet over 3000 fps. |

| I tried some of the .277 Fury hybrid cases. I found them to be very difficult to size, the brass part. The stainless part was fine. But I read several accounts of ringing in the chamber from early experimenters, and decide to give up. Sold them for near what I paid for them. |

Thanks, I will be looking at those too. |

I have been using resized 277 cases for my 308 "Fury" loads. Now, I only run these in higher end custom actions but am currently pushing the 178 Eldx and 180 tgks at 2804fps from a 23" barrel. These loads shoot under 1/2 moa with sinfle digit SDs and ESs. According to QL my pressure is about 74,000psi. I also confirmed with the manufacturer that the action could take these loads consistantly and was told that it could handle them with no issues. I have about 1200 rounds down range on this one so far. There is a guy on Snipershide who wild cats all kinds of new cartridges from these cases as well. As an aside, I tried one of my loads in a bergara hells canyon rifle and ended up having to use a deadblow hammer to open the bolt. So, these are pretty spicey. Also, I am using Alpha SRP brass more now since it requires less work to prep |

These would be fired in a Ruger M77 VT rifle. A Mauser 98 type receiver. I believe it should be strong enough. I've also read that some have gone as far as forming these into 6.5 Creedmoor. If I do eventually try that it would be in a Ruger American Predator rifle. I have a firm belief modern made actions are much stronger than the old ones if for no other reason metallurgy. The idea of having 30-06 power in an inherently more accurate .308 chambering is very interesting to me. |

I think generally yes although people talking about the new Peak cases mentioned something about it not increasing thrust. The other thing is that most bolt actions are really stong so there is a bit of safety margin there. Need some math geeks to break it all down. |

I updated the post. At 80ksi, it's only about 100 - 200 fps. Would that make a difference against something like a grizzly bear, water buffalo,..? That's an honest question, as I am not a hunter. It would really SUCK to have the first round lock up the action of your rifle. |

Sig does the Cross in 277 Fury so it's clearly possible to do safely. |

They're available in .277, or you can just buy a barrel. The Cross has an easy to change barrel system. Available at Sportsmans |

Dropping down to 41.5 gr gave 57,384 psi and 2508 fps. This gives you about 5% margin below the max allowable for 308W. GRT would not even run the 42.9 gr/2.280" condition. The error message said some thing about "the moon". At 2.400", GRT would run. The estimated pressure peaked at 93ksi and 2734 fps from a 24" barrel. <-- check this one carefully, bigtex84! That run came with this warning. https://i.postimg.cc/B6gdTKkX/Warning.jpg When I use IMR 4064 and the 190 SMK (my favorite long range bullet), I get 2575 fps using standard Winchester brass cases. It's a hot load but doesn't require special cases or 90ksi to get that extra 160 fps. Perhaps, that's something you should consider. Or not, it's up to you. Awesome thanks for the info I did whoopsie the oal. Should be 2.280 max magazine length. I’ll be shooting these out of a 16” barrel. I went back and check what I actually loaded and I only went to 42.1 before I chickened out. If I had to guess I’ll get about 2450-2475 fps if I’m lucky. |

If I had to guess I’ll get about 2450-2475 fps if I’m lucky. 2.280" may be your max magazine length, but what OAL did you use for these cartridges? I used 2.82" and 42.1 gr of 4166 yielding 2318 fps from your 16" barrel with peak pressure of 60.0ksi. I load the 190's to 2.895" OAL (0.020" off the lands). My Remington's magazine is 2.830" max, so these are single load only. |

Related: is it that you “can’t” resize the NAS3 cases, that they don’t want you to so you don’t gripe about how hard it is/how the cases come apart, or that they haven’t come up with a means to get the cases out of a sizing die, the way that they have for 9mm? It looks like you could push their .308 cases out of a die with a 0.25 or bigger rod, which would bear on the case body part, not the head part (see their schematic of a .308 case). Anyway, jazzing up .308 to super high pressures is probably a Bad Idea without careful selection of the rifle, the specific load, and a bunch of other factors. The Fury was designed from the ground up as a system, including the round and the rifle. It does not look like this is a system that lends itself to modification without plenty of lab-type support to make sure you don’t bulge a chamber, shear a bolt lug, or even catch the back of the bolt in your face. My opinion only, YMMV, etc. |

Got my primed cases today. A bit of one shot, actually more than a bit, and into the die. I was able to resize directly to 6.5 CM but it left a very small crease in the neck. Not sure what to do about that. Just couldn't squish it down enough and buckled? Sizing down to 308 was better, no problems there. Might be another week or two before I load anything up and test it out. Unmolested 277 and resized 6.5 CM. Look close and you can see the problem. Attached File Attached File The case took a bit of pressure to size but came back out very easily. No worry about pulling the case head off. ETA, added better picture. |

I have lost some faith in the GRT basic calcs... I have noticed that no matter how precise my initial data is, if I don't have actual V0 readings and then run the post-range OBT for that charge, the (5.56) estimated psi (and fps) is way off - usually low (by as much as 10kpsi/200fps) - so now I still do the base work-up calcs but try to keep my base kpsi about at the -20% pmax line - then I take the actual oal & h2o of the fired cases to generate the OBT... surprising the difference from the base calc. I'm finding up to 12%+ difference in some loads, probably due to poor powder models for some popular US powders |

GRT’s models come from crowd-sourced data, and some popular US powders have as few as ONE data submission. More submissions from more users helps make the modeling more accurate. LOTS more can make the models more precise. |

Anything outside that ,it's worse than useless, as usually wrong and giving bad estimates. It's terrible at 6.5 Grendel. |
