So,
I finally got the download software for the Ir Hunter Mark 2... and started playing. - The folks at Ir Defense are AWESOME over the phone. So if you call them, they are extremely helpful. - I called them and the software arrived within a few days after speaking with them, once it was clear I didn't get it with the USB / Video cable How the software package appears to work: - A BAE device driver is installed, and it detects the IR Hunter, etc., when then unit is turned on - A picture viewing tool is also installed, and it allows you to look at the pictures on the IR Hunter (it's very slow for a USB connection*) - It appears that BAE device acts as a USB-to-COM port interface, and thus, does not operate at native USB speeds Issues / comments: So, now we finally have an opportunity to get the some pictures off the IR Hunter... The software has a few bugs: - Sometimes it will not detect the camera - Sometimes it will stick in the middle of downloading, thus download the same images multiple times. (For example, I had 60 pictures, it go "stuck" on picture 27, and it downloaded 34 copies of picture 27!) - Moving between stored pictures for preview is slow (likely because the communication protocol is slow) I did call IR Defense to inquiry as to what the current version of the MK2 firmware is, and it appears that version 1.37 is the shipping version. I got the impression that they were not releasing an update any time soon? So, while the IR Hunter is really nice, and the folks at IR Defense (and TNVC and UNV as well) are all really helpful.... The unit continues to be plagued with menu issues, menu freezes, and flaky software. I really like the unit, but the issues related to the software controls are annoying the heck out of me. Before anyone asks, NO you can not plug the download cable in to a USB battery to power your unit. Do not try this as it may damage your unit. Our adapter accesses the power supply through the battery compartment using a drop-in spacer sell which allows for a larger voltage range(although not needed because the battery is never greater than 5V) and provides a much lower impedance connection to the scope. |

It's a personal preference thing, but for me I would go with the M300W simply because it's not that much more money and you could put on a rifle if you needed to. |

Yea, I meant car charger... I am showing my age and my tech level. My new Suburban has USB ports everywhere, and even a built in inverter, but my hunting Jeep and hunting Suburban don't, so I use cigarette lighter to UBS adapters and I put an inverter in the Jeep. I am like a kid waiting for Christmas Tyler... JPK |

I was going to look for this thread to report that the same Butler Creek cap that reportedly fits a PVS 14, size 09A, also fits the Patrol, and it makes recalibraring a one hand operation I stead of a three hand cluster f... So, any updates on Firmware availability to fix the missing and freezing screens on the IRD IR hunter MK2?
Seriously, we've got the battery adapter, the cables, the, albeit not ready for prime time software to connect to the BAE core, but where do we stand with updates to the MK2 itself? (Yes, I'm a MK2 owner, yes I like it, but I'd really like to know when the menu system will be rock solid. It's not a power issue with the battery extender installed... So I'm getting antsy about it... -grin-) |
