I’m the process of finishing my rifle. How do I make sure my final coat ends smooth and perfect? Long explanations ok. Watched Jim kiblers tutorial a dozen times. But he’s grabbing a rag, a paper towel, scotch brite, Grabbing it with his hand, talking about scrubbing with a rag etc. Hard to follow and I’m confused. The paper towel seems to want to leave lint and the scotch brite doesn’t seem like the best option for a good final few sheen coats. |

Yeah, his vids fall short in this area. What he does is get you to a 75% solution, which is more than enough for most people. But, to get that satin smooth finish you're going to have to hand rub an oil finish on. I use Tried & True Varnish Oil. Numerous videos and instructions on the web and YouTube on how to do a hand rubbed oil finish. Hope this helps. |
