I'm not looking for benchrest accuracy. "As good of accuracy as a factory 10/22 barrel" is fine with me. If it's better than that, great, I won't turn it down, as long as it isn't worse. How does accuracy hold up with barrel lengths between 4"-8"? My guess is that it stands up just fine, but I've heard a few people claiming that below 8", accuracy drops off really quickly as the barrel gets shorter. Secondly, shooting suppressed from a barrel between 4" to 8", shooting ammo between 40-45 grains in weight, from 700fps to 1050fps, would a "fast twist" barrel (1:9) be of benefit or detriment? |

my understanding, the 1:9 twist is really just for the 60gr Aguila quite a few barrel makers wont honor their accuracy guarantees for barrels under 6" or 7", depending on the maker (Feddersen is 7) plus there could be function issues under 6 what distance do you care about? 25yd, 50yd, 100yd or ? i had a charger w/ 6" kidd barrel. at 25yds, it would generally do 1/2 to 3/4 moa w/ occasional flyers w/ good ammo (like eley, sk, aguila) 1 moa to just over at 50yds. never really saw need to stretch it out to 100yds it was fine for steel targets and small game at 50yds if going under 6", definitely radius the rear of your bolt |

There's a million 22lr pistols out there that work fine with barrels 3.5-6 inches so I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you go 10/22 I agree that doing a radius on the bolt can help especially if you are having issues. I want to go super short so I can have bulk pack stuff stay subsonic but I'm a dirt shooter not an accuracy guy . I bet Ruger chose the 8" to be safe so that's a good data point.

| I had a chance to shoot a suppressed Rossi Rs22p. 10rd semi auto with a 6" barrel. PSA had them for $159 yesterday. I will be getting one. |

There is a ruger factory 10/22 sbr, and it only requires a Form 4. Shoots well, does require high rings for scopes, and a riser for a red dot due to stock being straight back instead of having a slight drop. Weighs the same as the rifle above it in this photo.
