Iv had it about 5 yrs. Bought it used, shot it twice and it scared the shit outta me. I never messed with it until this week. I ordered some bolts and field tips and cocker rope and it shoots 4" groups at 25 yards just messing around. It has a barnett brand 1x red dot that has 3 dots for distance. New, they were advertised at 325 fps , but it seemed slow to me , so I chrono'd it at 300ish fps with 457 gr bolt and field pt combo. That field pt is 100gr. I bought cheap broadheads that are 1 1/8" Dia and also 100 gr. Will this get it done ethically with a well placed shot , or do I need more speed and or weight? Any idea what it cost to have it restring? I'm assuming it's 10 yrs old? ETA will be hunting whitetail in MO....no further than 30 yd shots. |

That speed and weight are fine for a crossbow. I kill deer with a 535 gr arrow, 150 gr 1&1/8" 2 blade fixed head at 265 fps with my compound just fine. Shot placement is always king. Do you have a mom and pop bow shop local? That would be the first place I go for recommendations for new strings and cables and getting it checked out in general. It may be out of time and why your groups are so big. Then again, you may be better off with a brand new budget bow depending on how much new strings, cables and the labor to have it put on costs. |
