I have no knowledge of crossbows, but I want to buy one and shoot a deer this year at my property. I don't want to break the bank, so I'd like to be into everything for 500-750 if possible. I'm not sure of anywhere around me that sells these things outside of Rural King. My main concern is that although I've shrunk down to 6'5" as I've aged, my limbs are still long and I wonder if that's a detriment to these things. They look kind of small in the store. Will that affect my ability to load it etc.? I can lift weights as a hobby, so perhaps that helps? I obviously have no idea. Any advice for a first crossbow for a tall guy would be greatly appreciated. |

I kow it's outside your budget but, I shoot a 10 point Siege and it is TINY. I'm 6'3" and it is like shooting a SBR,tiny compact and deadly. Saying all that just to say that length etc may not be all that important,go handle a few and see wht ys think. Cocking these things is not all about brute strength anymore as there are several types of cocking aides available depending on the brand of bow. The seige is 200+ lbs of pull weight!It launches bolts at 415-420FPS according to my Garmin Chrono

To follow up, I purchased a Wicked Ridge by TenPoint Commander M1 because I got a great deal on it. I fired it the other day for the first time, and with a very small adjustment, I'm dead on with it at 20 yards. To say that I'm pleased with my first outing is an understatement. I greatly appreciate everyone's help on this, and I look forward to shooting a deer with it this fall. |
