It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.

I've been out a few times starting on Saturday and haven't seen anything yet, although it has been VERY windy and stormy. I have footage of a nice doe hitting my food plot yesterday at 2:50 yesterday afternoon while I was at work. Hopefully she comes back on Saturday! |

i killed the doe on 9-16-12. killed the buck on 10-4-12. made a bad shot on the buck and the coyotes beat me to him. the silver lining is that he was recovered and tagged and i will get to look at him on the wall. still bummed about losing the meat though. he had 17 scorable points and scored 146 3/8. both were shot with my mathews z7 with beman ics hunter elite 340 arrows tipped with g5 t3 broadheads and backed up with luminoks

Today.
Dressed out at 180 pounds. Had a deformed antler due to leg injury. Nice mature buck though. Check out the thread in the outdoors/deer hunting forum regarding antler growth and leg injury. Got a video of the hunt too and will post when I get it uploaded. |

5 point with my Mathews Switchback XT. 16 yards shot from the ground sitting behind my GhostBlind. Here is the story: Walking around this afternoon looking for a good spot, found a heavily rubbed run on the edge of the marsh, with runs going into the marsh. and a parallel run. Set the blind up on the downwind side and cut some shooting lanes, it is very thick with brier. He strolled by 30 minutes before sunset. Walked right toward me then turned broadside on the run. When his head went behind a tree I drew. When he stepped out past the tree, he stopped and I let it rip. It looked like a perfect double lung shot 2 inches behind the right shoulder. He dropped in his tracks. Because I was sitting down the arrow had an upward trajectory went through his right lung and embedded in his spine and paralyzed his back legs. ( it was a level shot, somehow the arrow deflected up into the spine. I knocked another arrow at 5 feet and aimed for his heart. I did not take into account that the sight is above the arrow and hit his gut.
I knocked my last arrow, aimed properly and put it into his heart. He was dead 15 seconds later. He was looking right at me with his head up on the last 2 arrows
I have to say, I did not like watching him trying to run on his front legs going around on the ground in circles, nor killing him while he was looking at me. ( thread about the deflection here) |

That was a spike, this one is a 5 point, so I am moving up. I have passed up several shots because they were not optimum, striving for a quick human kill or I don't take the shot. I thought this was a perfect quick kill shot. I just did not realize the arrow had an upward trajectory, I did not take that into account. Last year I stood up, this year I stayed seated to shoot. Eta. There was no upward trajectory of the arrow,mit must have deflected off a rib. |

Finally got to hunt yesterday morning. The season opened last monday and I had to much to do at work to take off any earlier. 15 yard shot, dropped her in her tracks. She was the 4th doe I saw.I know its a crappy picture but my back was hurting to much to pose her for a better pic.

Here is my first good buck with a bow. Dressed out at just under 200 pounds. Perfect symmetrical 10 pointer. Dropped of the head and cape to the taxidermist today. Shot broadside at 30 yards and went about 60 yards and was done

| I have a scale that hooks to the gambrel on one side the hooks to the rope on the opposite end once you hoist em up you get the weight. Our scale goes to 400 pounds. Not sure what its real purpose is but has been handy for weighing deer |

Got him this evening. Bowtech Destroyer 340, 60# with Easton Flatlines tipped with Slick Tricks. Green scored by a qualified ( ) person at 154.50" I'll try to get some more pics up later.

Thanks, how's your season going? took a fair Doe for meat early. no decent Buck's in range yet. I missed the chasin part of rut workin. I'm gonna try for another Doe before gun season comes in. After deer gun, dust off the AR and get to callin yotes. seen quite a few yotes over IIRC's way this year. nice buck buddy. go get ya some Doe's now. |

Yesterday's last hunt of the year was the first bow kill for me. This was a 45yd shot (thought it was 40 but my first arrow hit right at the feet) that barely hit vitals. Deer was 1/4 away and jumped at the string. I saw the stuck arrow far back in the body while it limped away so I figured "gut shot = get it tomorrow"
Well tomorrow finally became today and I went out to track, hoping for the best but expecting the worst. I was amazed to find a massive blood trail that started 5 yards away from impact, along withlots of stomach contents followed by bowel, urine, and 4 bedding spots which were entirely crimson. After the 4th bed (all in the span of a twisting 40 yards), the trail hooked back and went downhill where i found the button buck piled up with the arrow still inside, about 25 yards from where I shot him. The arrow glanced off the left knee, entered the gut and stopped just through the ribcage behind front shoulder. It went through the liver and took out the right lung, and the hind left leg was still stuck on the fletching. All the walking/limping must have kept that arrow moving and slicing up the lung. Beman ICS Hunter Elite with Slick Trick 100grn broadheads launched from a beater bow - Hoyt Razortec XT-2000 with 63lb draw. Fresh snow from 2 days before made tracking easy!

Got one on Jan 23. The rut is in full swing here. Shot was 38yd and he ran about 80yd. I was using my Hoyt CE and NAP Killzone broadheads. I had just switched to the Killzones and am very impressed with them. He's an 8 pt with busted G2 and weighed 180lb.

Bought my first bow this summer. Invested so much time getting proficient with the bow and relearning how to hunt. Paid dividends. I'm hooked. Can't wait for next deer season. I won't even bother sighting in a rifle...
