These are from last year, season doesn't open up here till October.

First two that I got where in south Texas while on a bird hunt inside 4k acer fenced in deer lease. The guy let me take two culls to help them out.

Fucking badger started eating one before I got to it

At my place in east Texas

and a few hogs at the same place in east Texas, all shot at the same time (within 30 seconds) would have had more but on the third shot it went through one and into the gut of another making it squeal scaring them off.

I was using my father's Matthews Reezen 7.0 @ 50 lbs (normally shoot at 65 but recently tore my rotator cuff ). He's young and not near as big as some of the others we saw but I'm very happy with him.

Put some meat in the freezer this morning. 5 yard shot...I inadvertently climbed a tree that left no shots outside 15 yards. Rage broke 2 ribs on the way through, came out under the opposite shoulder, breaking another rib. Arrow came to rest in the right leg. She rolled once, ran about ten yards, and down she went.

You can see where she was spined by someone in previous years...

I took this 3.5 year old 8-pointer this evening at 6:49 PM. He weighed 180 pounds dressed on the processor's scales. Not my biggest rack or body by no means, but I couldn't help myself.  We're only allowed one buck a year here in Indiana, and I can't believe I used my only buck tag on the second day of season.

Nice P&Y Buck!! Congratulations! Now you can get back to beating your doe kill record from last year .  By the way, it will be hard to beat the the buck you took during gun season last year!  Its all about the hunt anyway.  You know an over the counter Ohio tag is just a few miles away for you

Oh, believe me, I'm going on an arrow-slinging, doe-whacking expedition of epic proportions for the rest of the season. I can still take 4 more does with a bow here in my county, then I can go to other counties that I hunt and kill up to those counties' doe limits as well. If I hunted all 92 counties, I could take around 6-800 does in Indiana. I have a lifetime license, so my tags are free.

Yeah, my buck last year will probably be my deer hunting pinnacle.

OK, it's been a long day so the story will have to wait.
Yep, he's a little bitty thing, but after not getting to post at all in this thread last year b/c I got greedy, my freezer decided this lil' fella was just fine this morning.

Hit it a little far back? The reason I ask is that I gutshot a doe years ago with an arrow and found it floating in a pond the next day. A gutshot deer tends to go to water, and it is my belief that the "floaters" are pushed into the water by coyotes and expire there. Or did your buck just run after a normal shot and expire in the water by chance?

Either way, you found it, and that's the most important thing. Congratulations on a fine bowkill.

EDIT: I see that you shot and found it the same day. Disregard my coyote theory.

Well I get to post this year! My first deer ever! I just started hunting last year after my first son was born as something I can share with him. Barely even saw a deer all season. This year on opening morning just a few hours in I got my shot. The muzzy 3 blades destroyed the heart and a lung. The deer fell over dead. I was very proud of the shot. I was also blessed with my 2nd son 2 days later. So I will have 2 boys to pass on the tradition hopefully. Congrats on every ones kills!

Got him yesterday around 4 pm yesterday.  15 lbs gobbler taken at 32 yards.  My first turkey kill with a bow.

I was out deer hunting and four gobblers woke me up in my treestand by making noise scratching in the leaves on the side of a hill.  (Turkey archery season is open with deer season.)  One got within 20 yards so I shot at it and barely missed it.  It popped its head up looked around and went back to feeding.  Unfortunately, I had dropped my quiver of arrows earlier in the afternoon so that was my only arrow.  I was flipping out while they were still scratching around on the hillside within range.  So I thought to tie a loop in my pull up string and see if I could fish up my quiver.  It took a few tries, while trying to be very careful not to spook them, but I got it around the ends of the arrows and it held on to the vanes, so I pulled it up slowly, loaded another arrow; this time taking my time and focusing on the shot, and got this one.  Thwock!  He flopped up the hill about 30 feet then back down and died.  That didn't even scare the rest of them off.  Limit is one a day so I sat there and watched the other three make their way off the hill.  One went back and checked on this one before it finally took off.  They walked off hastily and cautious, making a muted clucking noise, knowing something had happened.

Well I finally got a deer.

It's my first deer ever. Opening day of my third season.

Hunting from the ground, ( with that ghost blind's inaugural hunt ) about a 9 yard shot. Unfortunately it was a gut shot. i don't know how my arrow got that far left, maybe he moved. Maybe I fucked it up, I don't know..

He ran for over 300 yards through the marsh, A friend of mine came and helped me find him through the dense march, but we found him.

100 lb dressed spike. I used a GT Hunter arrow with lighted knock and a Spitfire Mechanical.

There is an entry wound and an exit wound, but he took off with the arrow still in him. It did not pass through. Got hung up on the fletching some how, the spitfire came out the other side of the rib cage, but the arrow stayed in him and then got pulled out whole about 50 yards later. The mechanical blades were not deployed. Either they never opened up or when the arrow got pulled out they closed. I have no idea. The entire arrow was covered in blood, so I think it got pulled through when the spitfire got caught on something.

What a mess. Anyway, glad we found him. Took about 2 hours.

I know it's a small buck, but it's my first deer ever, and first deer with an arrow, and from the ground. Funny thing is, I shot him off to the side and in back of the Ghost blind just using the natural vegetation.

I am psyched.!  I have learned a lot in the last 2 years. ( except what to aim at I guess)

ETA: after reflection and re-watching the shot in my mind, I am pretty sure I gut shot that buck because I shot center of mass. I guess it was impossible for me to disregard 30 years of /mil and .LE training when it was time to shoot.. The shot is dead center vertically and dead center on the torso. Dead center of mass and I'm pretty sure that is what I aimed at.

Congrats guys, it's shaping up to be a good season for a lot of us!

Mach- Don't give up on those spitfires.  I've killed easily over 50 deer with those things since 1995 and have only had 1 failure to deploy, but I still recovered her. (I have pics but they're pretty graphic)
They do close very easily after they punch through, and especially if he ran with it in him, brush,  etc could have slapped them closed.
You should be able to tell by examining the actual hole in the future just for curiosities sake.  On the failure I had it looked like a 30 cal bullet hole with 3 points.  It should be very obvious if they didn't open.

VBC- Nice bird!  My first turkey was and remains the pinnacle of my bow hunting success.

Took this big ol' doe this morning. This is a smart doe, and I really wanted to take her out of the herd. She came in on me on the morning of October 8, along with a button buck and a decent-sized doe. She was in the rear, and got nervous as they neared the tree I was in. She got all spooky, so I shot the lead doe that morning at 9:21 AM.

Fast forward to this morning. Same big matriarch doe and button buck come ambling down the trail at almost the same time as before. Again, she is in the rear and hesitated when almost to my tree. She looked right up at me and stared. I was on the opposite side of the tree as she was, and every time I peeked around it, she was staring at me. I watched her breath fog the air, as she stared nervously. Finally, she turned around and stared quartering away back down the trail she came in on. I started to draw, but stopped short when she looked back over her shoulder. After a brief moment, she turned 90 degrees to her right and stood broadside.

By this time, she was a shade over 30 yards, and my adjustable sight was set on 20 yards. I held high on the vitals and watched the arrow arc right into the center of the lungs at 9:41 AM. She won't be teaching any more deer to look up at that tree.
