| I want to know if anyone else has tried this. I have several 30 round asc 7.62x39 mags and wondered how well grendel ammo would feed. So, here recently I purchased 60 rounds of 6.5 grendel ammo to fill two mags to 30 rounds and while at my local range shot both mags through my grendel upper. From this initial experience the rounds cycled with no issues through both magazines. Anyone else try this or consider this? If so what were your particular results? |

I've done it with a straight 10 round ASC x39 with no problems but not with one of the higher cap mags... I wondered about it too. As far as I can tell they look like the same mag with different color follower but I haven't measured the side alignment grooves. |

The 7.62x39 has a different case taper than the 6.5 Grendel which can affect the cartridges stacking properly. The grooves in the sides of the mag body might be different as they are there to help align the cartridges in the stack. You really won’t know till you try but the reliability might be better with shorter lower capacity mags. My twenty round CP Duramag have more curvature than my original C Products, ASC or E-Lander 6.5 Grendel mags. I don’t know if the Duramag 7.62x39 bodies are the same as the 6.5 Grendel mags but they appear to have the same shape. I have never tried any 7.62x39 mags in my AR-15’s in 6.5 Grendel. Here are a couple pictures of different 6.5 Grendel mags. Here is a picture of a seventeen round E-Lander 6.5 Grendel mag left, center is a fifteen round ASC 6.5 Grendel mag center and a twenty round Duramag 6.5 Grendel right. | The one thing that they all have in common is that they feed from the top... and those tops are straight, so if the lower cartridges don't get jammed and the spring and follower pushes the bottom to the top then I would think it should feed...I imagine the curvature of the stacked cartridges is the determining factor if it gets stuck. |

good thread. as noted by @VASCAR2, the taper isnt right, soothe curves isnt right, and the front indentation guide isnt right. but apparently close enough to work. if it were me, I'd run them as range mags, if they work. But still look for at least one "correct" one. |
