I have two 640DF lights, one that is two years old and another that is a week old. I've always had flickering issues with the older light and just regulated it to a spare rifle that didn't see much use. I took a chance and bought the new one because I've heard the issues have been fixed and so far the new light has been perfect and seems brighter than the old one. I noticed the head on the new one has a brass plug in the middle that the older one doesn't. I've never dealt with Surefire CS before, will they warranty the older light and fix it so it won't flicker or am I going to have to buy the parts myself? ETA. I'm using the 18650 batteries, UE tailcap and ST-07 tape switch on both lights. |

| If you bought it on Amazon - I just bought a random english word light for a plinker. Didn't say anything about Surefire in the ad copy. When it arrived it had authentic looking surefire markings, and flickered something awful and would actually turn off on dryfire. I'm convinced the only thing legit about anything Surefire on Amazon is that it's a surefire way to get scammed. Low markup stuff I'll buy with confidence but anything with a ton of markup like Surefire and Streamlight - nope not buying there. |

I did some reading in the archives and sounds like Surefire will replace the head with the updated version but the turnaround had been very slow. I went ahead and ordered one of the new UEE tail caps that are made for the dual fuel heads to see if that fixed the issues. From the limited reading I did the UE cap will work ok with the updated head but the UEE cap seems to fix the issues with the old style head. |

Here's the old style Attached File Here's the newer style with the brass nipple in the middle Attached File As soon as I mentioned I was having flickering issues and had the old style head he issued an RMA and said send it in so they can update it. He also said the older UE tail caps aren't designed for the higher 1500 lumen lights and the UEE or DSE tail cap is needed. I bought one and tried both on my newer light with the updated head and really couldn't tell the difference. |

I also thought about buying the UEE tailcap, but Surefire is offering free replacements to the new DF head so I figured why not as opposed to investing in a $70-80 tailcap only for this DF model. LIke you, I am also hoping its a short turnaround time since they are just swapping them out and not 'testing' anything. |

| Have you tried permatex dielectric grease at all the connections then snugging everything down. I do it with all my duty weapon lights. I know .. shouldn’t need to grease for a light to run but it definitely is added insurance for reliability. |

There is a conductivity/voltage issue with the old DF heads hence the new physical version. |

FWIW Surefire confirmed receipt of my RMA and package, and said 'it should be finalized soon' when I asked about timeframe. If that means closer to 2 weeks than 8 weeks, that would make me happy. |

Was hoping to get the head back before I went on vacation last week since the rifle it's attached was going with me. I ended up having to rob the head off the light on my shotgun.
