The bullets were measured for length: XM193: .738" IMI: .743" Wolf: .745" Next, a jig was set up to melt the lead out of the jacket. The copper was heated until it was glowing using a propane torch. Federal XM193 had the thickest jacket at the location measured. All of them were very close. The real testing comes from ballistic gelatin testing, which should be available from another member soon. However, this should serve as a valid data point with regard to the jacket thickness postulations. Outstanding job! That was quite an in-depth review you put together. Many thanks FALARAK for putting your data up and the devotion you put into it. I hope you get a chance to do the same with Geco 55 grn. FMJ. It has been rumored that the jacket is thicker than M193 and that is why it could be more accurate than M193. |

| The plastic stripper clips on the GECO stuff don't play real well with my mag loader (I use a Striplula). It does work, but the clips get stuck in the loader and it kind of defeats the purpose of a speedloader when you have to stop and force the clip out. Anyone have any better solutions? |

Here are some solutions: Buy a Plate Design mag loader for $50.00. See new AR products forum for more details. They are a site sponsor too. The night before a range trip, strip the amount of rounds you plan on using and put them in an ammo can, loose. At the range, grab a handful of rounds and insert the loose rounds in the mag loader and zip them into a mag. Moving real slow it should take you about 35 seconds to fill a complete mag. At about the third mag, you should be doing this at the speed of 25 seconds per mag. When you get proficient with the learning curve, it takes less than 19 seconds to do a complete mag load. Sit back and give yourself a laugh on how easy that was. Grab your cell phone and take a selfie of your smile! Or, leave them in the box on the stripper clips until you get to the range. Strip them off on a table, or into an ammo can and then insert the rounds into the mag loader. Zip them into the mags and you are done! Sit back and give yourself a laugh on how easy that was. Grab your cell phone and ............. Polymer mags work the fastest and easiest, But metal mags are no problem at all. Enjoy your trip to the range, it just got a whole lot easier! |

The Wolf seems to work well enough in the Tavor even though it's 55gr.
I want to report I've been loading these cases with Hornady 55gr HPBT and Hornady 55gr soft point over a stout load of TAC. I worked up, and the accuracy node just happened to be just under max. So far the cases are good. I only have a few that have 4 firings on them that were used to test out loads. Primer pockets are still tight, and there are no signs of stress on the cases. I don't know how they'll compare, but the best ever cases I've had were the SSA 6.8 cases from 2009-2012 period. I had a 16" recon from from the company that cannot be named, as well as their superbolt, and loading 110gr Hornady bullets to 2700fps, Spec II loads, and 90gr TNTs to 2925fps also spec II loads, I had 12 loadings on about 200 of them, and 7 loadings on about another 500. I never had any issues. I dodn't anneal them, and at the 12th loading, I was getting some split necks, about 1 out of every 25 so I retired them. The most I've had on 5.56 or .223 brass with any real numbers was 3 loadings on LC brass, I think 08 , but I'm not sure. I have about 250 that are at that , and they're still ok. I haven't had any splits. I just don't have a lot of loading history on the 5.56/.223, as my shooting has slowed down a lot with my health getting worse, and I was mostly shooting mil surp in them. My main loading was with 6.8 spec II and .308 in rifle calibers. |
