I have this urge to convert my 8" 5.56 build to 300BO for HD. I like my WC 11.3" 5.56 barrel quite a bit, so I thought they'd be GTG for a 300 barrel. Thought? This is the one I'm looking at: Wilson Combat 300 BO Barrel Looks like Lock-Loaded has it for ~ $185 shipped. I can live with that. Also, I'd like to go with a Griffin EZ LOK MD to use with my Rugged Obsidian 9 can. That's the way it's setup on my Glock G19. This way I can use the can on both. Thoughts on that too.. Here's the little beast I'm wanting to convert. I'll have to just say whatever with the Gemtech GMT-Halo. It's a nice can, but I'll have no use for it afterwards. Maybe I can donate it to local LE (if that's even a thing I can do..) Thanks!

@wildearp Yup, the WC barrel will work just fine, again I'm good with the price. For the price, it's on the top of my list. Hell, even Ballistic Advantage wants $220 for their Hanson profile barrel. Pass on that.. Truthfully, I'm good with my 10.5" & 11.3" 5.56 builds. The little 8" can go 300 BO and stay that way without regret. My chronic back nerve pain has me down & out right now (possible surgery soon) so most shooting has come to a halt for quite some time. I really don't have any future use for the GMT-Halo, but getting it to you in another state would be a major PITA. I think that involves 2 stamps if not mistaken.. Thanks brother |

I have a NFA transfer dealer, but I expect you are right, probably a hassle. I need to do some form 4s on my trust and I haven't done it since before the fingerprint requirement. The first batch of fingerprint cards looked like they were run over by the FEDEX forklift, unusable. ![]() ![]() ![]() (I paid more than that for my barrel, so for the Wilson, I would say that is an acceptable price.) You can't go wrong with Criterion either. Here are more choices . |

Wilson Combat makes a good barrel, I looked at them myself, but I wanted nitrides SS instead of the coating they use. They are also one of the few that makes an 11.3" 300blk barrel. I'd just opt for the bead blasted SS version of the 8" 300 BO barrel. I've got no issues with that. QPQ Nitride is great, but this won't get shot much, so the SS is fine with me. |

| I have a Wilson Combat 6.8 barrel that is the cats ass. If the 300blk is anything like it, it should be a winner. |
I hated going to weddings. All the grandmas would poke me and say "You're next". They stopped that when I started doing it to them at funerals.

Having shot suppressed .300BLK supers in confined spaces, it’s not the end of the world. That out of the way, you’re going to be disappointed with the Obsidian on a centerfire rifle cartridge, even with subs. It has decreased internal volume (due to the decreased diameter) and it leaves a lot to be desired in the backpressure department. That all seems counterintuitive given sound suppression appears to be a primary goal for you. All that to say, I’ve had good luck with WC barrels, but I think you should go back to the drawing board as your goals and game plan don’t seem to align very well. Just my $0.02. |

All good info brother. Let's just say I'm not expecting the Obsidian to make it as quiet as other cans would, just giving it some versatility between the G19 and a small handy rifle. Not looking for miracles here, just something to tame the beast so to say. Plus the fact I'm curious on the 300BO shorty setup, and I can scratch that itch fairly cost effectively. It'll just give me another tool option in the box to use for HD if the situation would ever rear it's ugly head (of which I pray to GOD it never does, like most do.) But I guess you're right, the Obsidian is NOT the right optimal choice. It's just what I've got, and have no plans for any more NFA purchases. Thanks for the insight |

And in true ARFCOM fashion, screw it. WC barrel ordered. Turned out to be a slightly better overall price from GunZoneDeals I'll post up more details once I get everything together. Again, I realize what I plan is not ideal, but should still be a fun project nonetheless. Now to procure some ammo (of which I know ain't cheap!) Also, H2 or 3 buffer good? I'll still use the SA adj GB to throttle gas. I think the gun has an Armaspec H2 in it now.. |

Thanks Yes, it is a Geissele factory tabbed upper/rail combo. They released a limited number of DDC blems this year during the July4th sale (I traded a member here my DDC upper for one of his ODG tabbed uppers). I managed to get 2 sets and already passed one along at cost. G sold them for $252.50 plus shipping. One set was recently listed on tacswap for $700 IIRC and ended up slowly dropping to $350. It got archived but no idea if it sold or not. I'm hoping their 300blk products launch this year for Halloween or Black Friday. Eurooptic already has skus listed for 5", 8", and 10.3" barrels, uppers, and guns. Weapon light is this: https://www.primaryarms.com/streamlight-tlr-rm-1-compact-rail-mount-light-500-lumen-black Very flood light and not much candela, which is fine for my use of home defense. Works great in the house, but you won't see very far with it outside. ETA: The 10.5" MK16 will cleanly chop to 7.25". Here is a tabbed ODG 10.5 rail I chopped to 7.25" and eventually sold...sad I did now lol. ![]() |

@Spyderboy03 Thanks for all the info. Yeah, I was able to score a Blemula 7" MK4 from G earlier this year. I think G is missing the boat not having 7" rails as a stocked item (albeit MK16, 8 or 4.) They're a great option for the 300BO builds. Oh well, I'll live with the MK4 no worries. I may very well grab one of the Streamlight WML's like yours. Amazon has them in stock. Don't really want to steal my Modlite setup from the 11.3" but.. I could. Thanks brother |

Good Q on the gas port size, but too late. I've already got it installed. Truthfully I never measure port size as I use SA Adj gas blocks. Griffin EZ LOK muzzle mount comes in today, and I ordered 2 MagPul 300 BO 20 round mags just for giggles as well. Why not.. Now to procure some ammo. |

I’ve had great luck with both subs and supers from AAC. Plus they seem to run specials on them once a week or so. Also, did you remove the irons from the unity mount so you could use the scalarworks irons? If not ditching those could free up a tiny bit of weight and maybe put some extra money back in your pocket for more ammo. |

Yeah, I pull the rear "peep sight" out of the Unity mounts (I've got all 3 of my SBR's setup with them that way, and Scalarworks PEAK irons.) But, just because I can't stop fuck'n with stuff, I've got a Scalarworks LEAP-RMR L1/3 mount coming today. I'm going to try it with my Holosun 507 Comp. For giggles.. Pics to come |

I see this deal on PSA right now.. Ammo Inc 220gr 200 Rounds Thoughts? I see AAC ammo too, but this seems like a good deal. If they're worth a salt. |

The Ammo Inc. stuff isn't too bad to use for burner ammo while breaking in the barrel, after about 50 rounds down the pipe I was able to get a super tight group at 50 yards with it, but it was a little erratic at 100 yards. I think I was able to get about a decent 2 to 2 1/2 inch group using a red dot/magnifier combo, your results may differ. I bought a bunch of it a while back when I built my 10 inch 300 BO and it all worked fine. I have used the AAC 300, both subs and supers, and they work really well, no issues to report. |

| Just wanted to give a big shoutout to both GunZoneDeals & Wilson Combat. I'd never ordered from GunZoneDeals before, and they came through like a champ. Quick ship notification, and my barrel was actually drop shipped direct from WC. How sweet is that?! I'd order from GZD again no problem. |

For giggles, I swapped the Armaspec H2 buffer system with a traditional spring & H2 buffer. Was curious... dropped weight down to 6lb 7.1oz No rounds in the 20rnd mag, still need to mount the WML. Ordered the RM-1 from Amazon should be here tomorrow. Just trying to keep this one fairly lightweight, but no reliability compromises. |

Still not bad at all. I’m half tempted to get a Magpul MOE SL-K stock as well. Lighter, smaller and should work for me. Heck, I think I’ve got an old MOE K pistol grip somewhere too. I’ll have to give that a try for giggles. All in all so far I’m stoked. I just hope the little Obsidian 9 at least makes it somewhat bearable with sub ammo. Probably need to put it back in full configuration for that.. Did you sell your AEMS & Scalarworks mount? I thought I saw that in the EE while surfing a few days back. |

I thought I saw that in the EE while surfing a few days back. I did sell an AEMS on Scalarworks about a mount ago. That was on this build and the one on it now has a combat textiles cover and was on my 12.5" 5.56 build. I decided to go back to an lpvo on it and got a Primary Arms PLxC then moved that AEMS to the 300 since it was more color coordinated . I also changed the optic on my 16" during that time and am developing a new load for all of them. Lots of zeroing and testing lately. I need to calm down.

I also use a K-can on mine (Resonator K), which is definitely not the best at sound suppression. It takes the edge off and makes mine sound like a 22lr when firing supers. Subsonic performance is just ok. I have a suggestion/food for thought regarding your ammo selection: Subsonic ammo does not quiet the blast of the gun, but rather the sonic crack (I’m sure you’re aware). In a HD situation you’re likely not going to be shooting at a range where the round will travel far enough to realize the benefits of subsonic ammo. Having shot deer and hogs with subs before, I can tell you their performance is hugely underwhelming. I once shot a deer with a 405 grain all-copper expanding sub (from Maker Bullets) out of a 450 Bushmaster, and the deer walked off and was never recovered. This was a 30 yard shot off a tripod, so I’m confident I didn’t miss. Every deer I’ve shot using the same gun and supers never took a step, all DRT. I also shot a deer once with a subsonic/suppressed 357 rifle, shooting 180 grain XTP bullets. I made a good hit, and when I recovered the deer the next day we found it had died that morning (18 hours later). I see people talk about subs for HD often, so I apologize if this is controversial; but I would not trust subs on “my worst day” unless that was my only option. I’ve been keeping mine loaded with 110 V-Max supers, as I’m confident this will end the fight immediately at HD distances. YMMV… |

Great insight Goody454, do appreciate that. I'll have to get some Supers and give them a go as well. It certainly makes sense, the intended distance for HD would totally negate the subs allure of not cracking the sound barrier. The only ones out of what I picked up that may be suitable for HD are the 190gr SUB-X, but who knows. Thanks brother! |
