LMT produces a 1:8" .308 barrel for a British contract. Barrel I am trying to understand the rationale behind the 1:8. I assume it was a requirement from the contracting authority, but I am trying to determine what operational need drove it. Do the British use a heavy armor penetrator round? Are they firing unusually heavy for caliber projectiles to extend effective range? |

A Berger 185 Juggernaut doing 2525 at the muzzle would still be supersonic at 1000 yards. Pretty impressive from an 18-inch barrel. | I have this LMT barrel. As shown above it was designed to shoot heavier high bc bullets. I shoot the 208 ELDM with a .690 G1. It shoots the 169 & 175 SMK into dime sized groups. How many blackout barrels are 7X twist? Faster twist stabilize the full gambit of .30 cal projectiles. Todd Hodnett made the fast twist.308 years ago saying he would never own a barrel longer than 18”. Wind drift is the value in long range shooting, not drop. |
