And as for compatibility , typically it is between DPMS pattern and Armalite Pattern. That's just it. I had no issues. The ArmaLite barrel went into a MEGA Upper with a BCG advertised as for a DPMS pattern rile and works fine. I think a lot of these, so called compatibility issues are bunk.

The whole lack of a Mil-Spec for .308AR's is a PITA... so far I have seen 3 different Pic. Many of the problems come from the crappy bcg design copied from DPMS. There isnt enough gas venting in these no name 308 parts. If you look at Larue, KAC, Armalite, LMT, and many others, their BCG vent ports are higher in number, and positioned differently. This is a major factor to proper extraction and ejection. If not enough venting, it will be "overgassed", if improperly positioned, same thing. The impulse will be incorrect, and cause issues. Bolt face depth, chamber differences, gas port size, gas vent locations, size and amount of vents, MFG qc, these are all things that contribute to the problems of the AR10 variants. tons of companies getting parts from multiples sources, under multiple specs, and hoping they work as good as their prototypes. Which they never do. So we the people, are left being beta testers for all these parts. I dont trust these fly by night companies, bargain bin companies, or whatever. Ill try receivers, and thats about it. I stick to parts I know work, Im taking a big chance on the Lantac 308 bcg, but they do have some pretty good QC. So its worth the attempt. Ill make it work regardless. A challenge really. Tired of parts just going together. And Sandwich Earl guy's thread of the wood furniture really got me thinking of doing something even crazier. Going to try the DCM tube with a custom wood handguard. Been getting into woodworking alot lately, and this would be a good small project to practice carving and chiseling. |

Maybe bunk was the wrong term. How about the differences are not substantial. My MEGA upper, with ArmaLite barrel (extension), using a BCG advertised as a DPMS Style is working just fine riding atop an ArmaLite AR-10A4 B lower using B type Gen II magazines. Actually I traced the initial issues I was having with it not always going fully into battery to too stiff of an extractor. Not only were there concentric springs, there was also two rubber "O" rings. Removed one of the "O" rings and it's fine. I kind of figured it was that because I had to mortar on the butt stock to get it to open up. My initial confirmation came from putting ArmaLite Bolt in the DPMS style carrier. Fit perfect. Ran just fine. To further confuse the gas key placement difference is the difference in gas tubes. ArmaLite's gas tube is a 16th of an inch longer. That there compensates for the gas key placement difference but that is not all. Ballistic Advantage puts their gas port .280 inches closer to the breach than my ArmaLite barrel. Be careful. Be safe.
