Just starting to experiment with LPVO shooting and debating on mount height choice. Host rifle will be a DD M4A1 14.5” with a FSP. Scope is a Trijicon Credo HX 1-6x24, 30mm. I have tried a standard 1.54” mount and feel the FSP clutters the sight picture too much. Picked up a Unity FAST LPVO, and while the high mount helps clear the FSP at 1x, it’s definitely high. I don’t intend to run a red dot with this scope as it provides a usable, daylight bright dot on 1x. Don’t have immediate plans for night vision although I see people saying the taller mounts help clear lasers, etc. despite shooting through a LPVO not being practical. Are there any downsides to the taller mounts I am not thinking of? All of my red dot mounts are Larue QD lower 1/3 co-witness, which makes me think a 1.7-1.93 mount would work for me assuming the FSP didn’t cover too much at low magnification. Would love some insight and/or pictures from those shooting LPVO with a FSP rifle! |

Your face is unique to you, so asking on the interwebs makes as much sense as asking about the shoe sizes. I'd pick the lowest that. 1. Accommodates the scope without it hitting the receiver/rail, allowing for scope caps, throw lever, MRD, kitchen sink. 2. Enables a proper cheek weld. Height over bore is a thing. Since we're talking about an LPVO, you're unlikely to use it with NVG on, so that argument goes away. |

Think about whether you want a run and gun rifle that can do a shitty job at extended precise shots or the opposite. If 50/50 I'd lean towards lower. Top dots aren't just for NV it's also to always have a 1x. Think about how you are really going to run it. Many people leave them at 3x. |

NV is not a consideration, but thermal is maybe. So I'm a 1.54" enjoyer, and prefer 1.93" offset dots instead of super high piggyback mounts. |

I am happy with the 1.93” for my ATACR (and NX8 before that). Tried a dot on top and it was way too high for me (and my work gun has a T2 on a Skyscraper). Spent some time behind a 4-18 in a 1.5” with a dot on top and really liked it. The 1.7” seems like a decent compromise between the two but a dot on top is going to be very high. |

1.7 is going to be like a lower 1/3. 1.54 sucks with a fsp 1.93 practically takes the fsp out but, it's pretty tall. I've been going 1.7, not for a fsp but to get a little more above a laser. I'd really like 1.93 but then it makes the top dot really high for passive aiming. Everyone is different though. Buy a few cheap Monstrum mounts and see which you prefer. That's what I did to find i liked 1.7 for my application. . |
I am not an operator nor am I very smart.
Keep that in mind when reading my comments:-)

Depends on the application, and it is Personal Preference. But, this is what works for me when I setup LPVO(s) |

First thing you should acknowledge is there is no reason to have a FSP today. All it is going to do, as you can see here, is clutter up your sight picture. If you are having to work around it or compromise in any way because of it, the first thing I would do is get rid of it. Next... this is a personal ergonomic and use case question, so what is best for you may vary, but based on my own body and experience: 1.93": I like this for red dots, but is a big no for me on an LPVO that I might want to use in a magnified capacity. Getting down on the gun with a good solid cheek weld, and 1.93, is not compatible for me. 1.7": A good height if I was planning to use it on 1x 80% of the time with magnification as an option. I can get a decent cheek weld, but over time it becomes uncomfortable. Top dot here feels goofy high for me. For standard 2gun/3gun hit factor type stuff with 90% of targets inside 100yd with occasional shots out to several hundred, this would be my pick 1.5": Still workable at 1x, top dot is also workable, and cheek weld for magnified use is great. This will be my automatic choice for anything with above 1x bottom end. It would also be my choice for DMR type stuff where primary use is magnified with maybe some close stuff still mixed in. So for me it depends on how I envision using the optic most of the time. |

I prefer 1.70 height for my LPVOs. I used to like 1.54 inches, but after switching to Badger Ordnance C1 at 1.70, almost everything else feels cramped. But I also run Area 419 mounts on MPVOs and they all fell and function just fine. Purpose and use dictates the configuration. |
