Just as an FYI, the 3rd edition added the following from the previous edition: This Third Edition is not a major update, but since we do have some relevant new content, we wanted to get it incorporated into the book for this printing. With 24 new pages added to the prior edition of the book, here is a list of the new content and features: Colt Model 608. We already had a Model 608 featured in the book, but we were fortunate to be able to find a second intact example in England. This also permitted us the opportunity to get some additional detail photographs incorporated into the book. Colt Model 620, which is the Export Version of the XM177. This is a rare “CAR-15” variant, and we were fortunate to be able to photograph it in a collection in Europe. It also features the exceedingly rare unpainted aluminum collapsible stock. Export M16A1 with M203. Export M16A2. New dustjacket image with Armalite Serial Number 3, commemorating this Third Edition. We are also replacing the prior Tiger Stripe camouflage pattern design with a new Tiger Stripe cover created by reproducing a section from an authentic Vietnam War-era uniform which we photographed as part of another project in the works. I have the 2nd Edition of AR15 volumes 1 and 2, and they are phenomenal books. The photography is incredible and they are massive, heavy books that have glossy pages and super high end quality. Something to own for anybody who's a big AR-head and/or cloner guy, the photos are so detailed and great references if you're really trying to clone a military rifle. |

| I ordered a basic standard copy for $149 and just got a shipping notice about an hour ago. It said pre order with delivery in 2027 though so I'm not sure what's up with that. I did want whatever the latest version is. |

My preorder for the 2nd one was probably 6 months out, but my copy showed up with no issues. A great book, and great reference to have. |

Honestly, I'd be surprised if it was printed anywhere in North America in 2026. I don't want to glaze any more on the book than what I have already, but I really cannot stress enough how nice these books are. I can tell you lots of things normally I'd like to spend $200 on besides what I felt would be a "coffee table book", which at first seemed like lighting money on fire. And maybe to some people it is, but I think if you're in the retro AR forum and into clones and appreciate history and companion materials to the guns we spend so much time and money on, there's not really anything else I could see more deserving as far as photography, art or any type of historical non fiction book goes. For one, these books are fucking heavy. If you are putting these on a coffee table, make sure it's a stout one. The books are around 600 pages and when laying open on the spine is about 11" tall, 26" wide and almost 2.5" thick when it's laying folded. There's a lot of material in them, and only a very small amount are images found easily on the web when doing searches on the subject, a lot of the material in them was the first time I'd seen the images ever, which was most surprising to me honestly, as I figured a lot of it would be regurgitated stuff you can find on Google image searches. Not at all. Even Ian from Forgotten Weapons' reviews on them as good as they try to be cannot give a sense of the quality of the images. The resolution in some of them is so good that (I know it sounds cliche' and cringe) it is almost like you're looking at the actual gun in front of you, with all of its imperfections and minuscule details, especially on some of the closeups. I absolutely did not plan on getting Vol 2, as Vol 1 and the early rifle history was more of interest to me in terms of seeing good photography and close up on clone builds I was working on this year. But I was so impressed with Vol 1 I went and had to get Vol 2 a few weeks later, and I've read them cover to cover and have since shown them to friends when discussing clone stuff and historical stuff we were all working on and interested in, and it's a valuable resource in that aspect unlike any other publication. The only thing that would be better than this would be like a video series similar to that of the old 90's Japanese series Guns of the World, where they take these weapons and do close up beauty shots of them in a studio and then have clips of someone firing them. I like to look at it while relaxing in the recliner, but can only do so for so long because the spine pushes into my leg. |
