Checked the FAQs as well as the interwebs... but no good answers that I could tell. Found an old lower tucked in the back of the safe, a truly vintage Vulcan (do they even exist any more?) that takes AK mags. You know I HAVE to build something with it... but the pesky AK mags are too wide for standard AR uppers. PSA made some rifles with this type lower, but they do not have any of their upper receivers available. What upper receivers would be suitable? If it means milling away a bit of material, no problem. Thanks! |

You can use the PSA KS-47 upper which is milled out for AK mags. They have complete uppers for sale, but haven't has the stripped uppers alone for a bit. Remember, you also need the bolt carrier group milled out to work as well, so you might as well buy a PSA complete upper. MGI quick detail uppers are also milled out for use with AK mags. I got one of the older model with the quad rail and it works on my KS-47 lower. I didn't get it for my KS-47 and only thought about it after I purchased it used. I always wanted to try it and it was $125. Gibbz makes a side charging upper that works with the KS-47. It's close to the same money as the entire KS-47 upper, but it a nice piece of kit. I have one on a .300BO pistol that has an adjustable gas block so I can turn off the gas with sub-sonics. There is another company that makes AR-15 uppers that take AK mags, but can't remember the name. CMMG makes the Mutant & MK-47, but those won't fit as they are based on a .308 sized receiver. |

Yea, I just saw that PSA has their complete uppers on sale so I might have to get one of those. Guess I can list the barrel, handguard and gas block in the EE... That gives me the carrier with the milled areas as you mentioned. I saw a Gibbz in the EE and it does look tempting but again, I'd need to mod the carrier... |
