| Thinking of putting a .450BM upper on my last lower and it seems like Tromix gets good reviews. I see they have the standard line and an economy line, does a guy really need to spend the extra money for the 7075 receiver and handguard? I would change the CH out for a Geissele so no worries about the cheaper factory offering. |

| My general approach to questions like this is that if you are asking you don't need the premium line. Outside of few specific things I don't chase specs and lean heavily on quality vendors builders etc. I'd absolutely have no issues buying anything Tromix put their name on. |

7075 is much harder and has higher tensile and shear strength (almost double that of 6061), so it's less prone to abuse. 6061, however, has better corrosion resistance. So, unless you plan to abuse your rifle, or go to battle with it, 7075 probably isn't going to offer you any advantages. |

I'm no metallurgical expert, but I have never seen a 6061 receiver take a dump due to normal civilian operational stress. However, I have seen plenty that were damaged by home builders using the wrong holding fixture(s) to tighten the barrel nut. Personally, I would have no concern using a 6061 receiver, but I would probably replace the the 6061 charging handle with a 7075 unit. If for some reason you need to mortar a round from the chamber, it's not that hard to break the tip off a charging handle. Keep in mind, we recently tested a bunch of charging handles that were sold to us as being 7075, but it turned out they were actually 6061, 6063, or Die Cast. Only 50% of the ones we tested, were actually 7075. Tony Rumore Tromix |
