About to order a 12" upper. Normally for ARs I go with 4150 chrome lined due to fire volume/heat. Not a problem with 458. Also don't need match grade accuracy as this is a 100yrd thumper. Anything I'm missing? Also, anyone with a Tromix bbl know how they blend the upper and feed ramp? Is the upper cut anodized? Thanks!!!! |

Almost all my SOCOMs, all calibers, have SS barrels. A couple or three have CroMo barrels and the only difference I see is theoretically better rust resistance with the SS barrels. But since my CroMo barrels never get any neglect, there is no danger of rust in them either. I still prefer SS though. On all mine, the blended feed ramps have bare aluminum exposed after blending and IMO the aluminum being bare is only a problem for the anal retentive. Non issue. But…if the bare aluminum freaks you out, coat it with Duracoat, Alumahyde, or Birchwood Casey’s Aluma-Black. |
