Good Afternoon Folks, Have an Armalite lower that I'll be using with a pretty generic 5.56 upper for now, bought the rifle as a base to learn about ARs on. Not new to shooting/reloading just to ARs. Rifle will be shot at the range for now, initial bench work then prone/3 pos. The current trigger is pretty rough, very heavy and clunky. Not looking for a Jewel by any means but would like to swap in something lighter/crisper. Would like to get down to the 1-2lb range, don't have a preference re single or 2 stage. What is a realistic budget and any suggestions? Thanks, Matt. |

The Rock River 2-stage trigger is a great choice for transitioning from a “meh” basic, gritty trigger to something better. I’d recommend going with this, or something in a similar price range as a first step. Once you get the feel of firing your AR in a target-type application, you might look at either a LaRue MBT or a Geissele Super Semi Automatic - Enhanced (SSA-E). I have both; they are “not the same” but they are both excellent 2-stage AR triggers with a great feel and a crispness you won’t find in a basic trigger. |

Primary Arms (a Texas company, like LaRue) is one of LaRue’s retail partners. $115 is the list price for the MBT-2S. You won’t be sorry with this trigger. |

You will really have to look hard to beat the value and nice pull in the Larue MBT-2 trigger. You can buy triggers with lower pull weight, but dollar for value the MBT-2 is darned near impossible to beat. I own a number of them and they all work as advertised..I also have a number of other very good triggers, but dollar for value is a valid consideration. If you have the money to spend, the Geisselle triggers are very nice. ETA: If I'm going to spend twice the money for another trigger, I expect it to be twice as good. So far I haven't found a trigger that is twice as good as the MBT-2 for twice the price. |

Thanks to all for the replies and good info. Got the LaRue installed without incident and made it out to the range. New trigger is head and shoulders better than the old one. Definitely not a benchrest trigger but for a truck gun it is more than adequate. With a cheap 16" upper and even cheaper ammo the rifle is grouping around 2-3" @200, a workable place to start. Geissele SSA would be a good choice for those still looking. About 4.5 pounds two stage. If you can safely use a bit lighter weight pull, the SSA-E is excellent. 3 pounds total pull-through with a 1 to 1.2 pound super crisp second stage for precision shooting. My hunting rifles (bolt guns) have 3 pound triggers and I am used to that pull weight. |

My "cheap" 16 inch carbine I put together from spare parts has an old CMMG nitride barrel, 1:9 twist. I was surprised what it did with match ammo - 1.1" at 100, about 2.5" at 200 shooting from a decent front rest setup and rear bag. With M855 and M193 it's more like 2.5-3", though Which is all that can be expected from that ammo. |
| I don’t have any experience with Larue triggers. But have shot Geisselle, Rise Armament and CMC. They all feel really close. All have crisp breaks and short reset. I prefer the CMC curved trigger 3.5 lb pull. The rise armament rave 140 has a slight curve in the trigger but prefer the standard curve of the CMC. The Geisselle has the same trigger as the CMC and I can’t tell the difference in the triggers that warrants the increase in price of the Geisselle over the CMC. I’m not a fan of the flat triggers. So CMC it is for me. These are all single stage triggers. I have owned. Never owner a 2 stage for my ARs. |

RRA has them on special once in awhile, I got one a few months ago for $60. If you can't find an RRA for less than $100, another choice is the LaRue MBT-2s. Black Friday is coming up, expect deals on these triggers. |
