I'll throw my .02 in here.
The first optic I used was an Eotech. While I liked it well enough I wasn't thrilled with it. I came to the realization as to why I did not like it after I used a friend's AR with a Primary Arms Optic on it. I researched Aimpoints after that and eventually I got my own through the EE. For me they are much simpler to work and easier to aim with. Instead of focusing on a 1 MOA dot with a 65 MOA ring around it, which was too busy for my eyes; I only had to focus on a 4 MOA dot. Also, I found that sighting in an Aimpont is easier as well. I like my Comp M2 on my AR so much I bought a PRO for my AK. |

I like the reticle on the Eotech, but the battery life is pitiful compared to an Aimpoint, and recently, it seems there is a fairly serious design deficiency with Eotechs leaking gas & throwing off their zero depending on temperature? Not sure what the actual problem is there as it never happened to the Eotech I used on duty, but I've never had any such issues with any of the Aimpoints that I've used either, and as stated by others - the battery life is phenomenal... Almost "fire & forget" so to speak. I would be sure to get a 2 MOA model Aimpoint over a 4MOA model as the larger dot is ...I won't say it's unusable, though it is certainly not as ...effective?...easy?...enjoyable? not sure how to describe the difference, but the 2moa models are the way to go, especially if you are going to use a 3x magnifier with it.
Also - though the battery does last a LOOONG time on an Aimpoint - you should still open up the battery compartment every few months to ensure that the battery casing itself is not deteriorating or leaking & then go re-confirm the weapon is still properly zeroed. I know lithium batteries aren't supposed to suffer the same hazards as alkaline, but it's still the smart thing to do (checking them every once in a while). |
