I am getting ready to take advantage of the new no tax stamp era. I am set on the Surefire ecosystem. I am debating between the SOCOM 762 RC2 and the SOCOM 762 Mini. These will be used on a 20” AR10 7.62 platform, a 14.5 AR15 in 5.56 and a 16” 300 BLK. From my research, the 762 Mini is roughly the same size as the SOCOM 556 RC2. My question is this: Does the extra 1.8 inches make a huge difference in sound suppression? The Mini would basically put my 14.5 at 20.7 “ My AR10 is basically a hunting/ long range gun. My 16” BLK is basically a hunting rifle as well. Most of the hunting in my area is 200 yards and in. I don’t mind the extra length while sitting in a deer stand, but the RC2 would put my 14.5 AR15 home defense/ SHTF rifle at 22.9 inches. Which seems a bit unwieldy. Would the SOCOM 762 Mini be an effective first suppressor to start with for a multi gun can? I would eventually pick up a SOCOM 556 RC2 for my 14.5 as funds were available. I would love your opinion on this, as most of you have significantly more experience with suppressors that I do. Thank you for your assistance. |
| There’s a suppressor subforum under Armory, FYI. As for your suppressor question, there are a few different SF compatible HUB mounts out there that you could use with any HUB can, so you’re not limited to just SF cans. B&T also sells cans that come with SF mounts out of the box. |

I have both the Surefire RC2 762 and the Surefire RC2 556. The RC2 762 is a long and heav can, I use it on a 16” 308 and 7” 300 blackout. It feels good on the 300 blackout and sounds good with supers on both rifles. With Subs it won’t be the quietest can, but it is still acceptable. On the 16” 308 it really weighs the rifle down. For this reason I keep it off of my 556 guns. The RC2 556 is great on my 556 guns (although it can be gassy, look at the RC4). The extra length and weight of the RC2 762 is noticeable on the end of the gun when compared to the RC2 556. Whether that makes the RC2 762 mini worth it, I am not sure since I haven’t tried one. |
