I just got back from trying out my new Spikes 9mm lower and was getting failures to eject from the first round. The casings were riding along the side of the ejector instead of contacting the front post. When I took a closer look I saw that the ejector is on a slight angle so it's facing away from the bolt instead of parallel/riding right next to it. I attached a few pics so you can see what I'm referring to. I've read that others have had similar issues and some successfully adjusted it themselves by bending the ejector while others broke it while doing so. I emailed Spikes to see what they suggest but figured that I'd ask here since I'm assuming that some may have done similar adjustments...what's the correct method adjust/bend it? I'm assuming bend it closer to the base? It seems like it would be easier to adjust it while it's installed so you can test it as you go but do you risk damaging the lower?

Thanks...I carefully bent it with an adjustable crescent wrench...making sure that I was bending at the thicker part and not at the tip and that seemed to work. Hopefully, these pics load but I went from this... To this...  And the ejector now appears to be in the correct position...

Yes, I used an adjustable crescent wrench and was careful to bend it where it's thicker and not at the tip. That seemed to work...I don't see any cracks. |

That should work well. It looks like you did everything right. Heating, then bending the ejector is safer than bending cold. I've had one snap. Filing the tip flat and parallel to the bolt face helps ensure the maximum amout of ejector is making contact with the tiny exposed portion of the rear of the cartridge. I modeled my buffer setup on your advice...Just Right Carbine Extended Buffer Tube, Kak 6.9oz kspec Buffer, Kak flatwire spring, and two Kynshot Spacer Weights for a total of 11.9oz. My bolt weighs about 15oz so I'm right around 26/27oz in total. And I found your ejector article/video as I was doing some searches shortly after I posted here and the content/guidance was great. |

Ran 160 rounds through it today and had some sporadic feed/ejection issues with the initial 75 or so rounds. I realized that was mostly old 135/147gr "low recoil" ammo that seemed underpowered and caused weak ejection. Once I switched over to 115/124gr full power ammo it ran well with no feed issues and strong/consistent ejection. |
