Let me ask first. What AMES are you looking at? They’ve got a few different models. If it’s the original AMES it’s what I owned. Great light weight optic with about the same window of view at the UH-1. It also has a great battery life due to being a red dot versus holographic. The con with it, Chinese made and I believe some warping around the sides. I can’t remember how bad or if I even noticed it. Also a lot of Holosun optics on Reddit have been having quality control issues.

The size between the two if you are looking at the original AMES, the AMES is a thinner profile, shorter, and like I said very light. I also believe they both sit at the same height. It’s not much shorter than the UH-1.

The biggest con with the UH-1 is the battery life. I also preferred it over my Eotech 512. I felt like the reticle was nicer to me.

Now I’ll throw a wrench into your project. If you want a bigger window optic like the AMES and the UH-1 and military tested. I would look at the Meprolight Tru-Vision. There are two different models. One is a standard dot and the other is a multi reticle. I own the standard dot version and like it a lot. But it’s not without cons too. It is very light weight.

Cons of that one. Standard backup sights won’t work with it. They won’t sit high enough. You’ll need to get the Meprolight brand. Not a big deal and very good quality. Con number two. The dot doesn’t use the entire window. You don’t notice it but it’s there. Think of it as a square optic with a dot used in a tube style optic like an Sig Romeo 4T Pro or an Aimpoint T2.

For the Meprolight Botach has been the cheapest as has Battle Hawk Armory. If you want the Sig optic Heart of Texas with coupon codes if ROMEO60 and ROMEO80.

My go to optic on my rifles are the Sig Romeo 4T pro and 4XT Pro.
