"Silent sling" question

With regard to military use, did the GI "silent sling" see any service in Vietnam, or were all the slings the older type with metal hardware?

Near as I can tell, most of the slings in use were nylon M1 slings. You will occasionally see 2 qt canteen/GP straps modified for sling use.
