First, aside from suppression, lightweight is a main goal hence the 2 cans I narrowed it to below. Had a 7.5" AR years ago way before I got into suppressors. No complaints, but never shot it so sold it. Now here I am decided whether or not I want to get another 9mm/300BO can or a 30 Cal can. I'd either get the Griffin Explorr 300 or SiCo Scythe Ti if going 30 Cal and there is my excuse to build another 7.5" AR (Would be run suppressed full-time) Or would that be a waste of $ since it would likely still be too loud to make spending all that $ worth it? Said 7.5" AR would just be a range toy, but I suppose it could double for HD if I wanted. I have a lower setup collecting dust that just needs a barrel, muzzle device & handguard. I don't need to start from scratch FWIW. Every time I think I have my mind made up, I keep going back & forth... I already have a 9" 300BO so don't need another 300BO I already own the cans below & the SOCOM is on my main AR full-time & the T3 is on my SBR & could rotate, but really want a lightweight can lol Oculus 22 Obsidian 9 Turbo T3 SOCOM MINI2 Odessa 9 Erector 22 VersaX 12GA |

I don't understand the goal here. If it is just a range toy, do what you want. If you are asking for serious consideration in tech, and you want a 7.5" AR. I suggest .22LR, 300blk, or pistol caliber. I have a 7.5" 300blk with a pinned gas block Faxon Gunner barrel. Love that profile, and it is super light weight. Also have a 9" .22LR that is more like an 8" barrel. That is awesome as well. |

I thought about doing a 22LR pistol as well |

I ran a 7.5" for a while. A suppressor was not an option way back then due to state laws. One heck of a muzzle blast until the Noveske Pig came about. One day shooting steel with another officer who had a 11.5" barrel (which I also had before I went to the 7.5") it was so clear how much more energy the same round had upon impact of the steel. I swapped back to my 11.5" upper. Then went 300 blk in late 2011. If it's a range toy build it and run it. If you are looking for more than a range toy, give some serious consideration to a 10-11.5" barrel. Mike |

I had a 7.5 inch bbl originally on this but my suppressor wouldn’t clear the rail with the SiCo QD mount. So I ended up putting an 8” bbl on it. I personally love this pistol. It’s my go to AR right now for close range/NV shooting it’s amazing. It’s required a bit of tweaking to get running 100% reliably. I had to get an adjustable gas block to get gas flow dialed in. I am obviously not trying to build the quietest AR by any means. I wanted a short compact 556 AR pistol with all the NV stuff on it for traveling. This isn't for long range and ballistics are not that important to me. I carry a few mags loaded with good quality SD ammo. I am not relying on standard M193 or M855 for this rifle to be effective. Its for discreet travel and defense inside a home or building...and fun. Within 50 yards it will 100% do a lot of damage to a threat. I am not too worried about ballistics and all the arguments folks have about short bbl 556 ARs. |

If you are happy with a really loud and expensive .22 magnum, go for it. Seriously, I've shot one, supressed, they are fun. They are silly and a terrible spec, but that doesn't mean they aren't fun. I'd never build one personally. I have even more fun running .22LR if I'm just playing. You're basically in P90 territory there, so... get a P90, way more fun and purpose built. JMHO, - since ya asked. |

| If I am building an AR, investing in another can, or investing in a new caliber, I want the build to be functional for a purpose beyond just a range toy. A purposeful, reliable build can be a fun range toy (many of mine are), but a range toy is rarely a functional or reliable build for other uses. I've gone down this road before with pistol calibers and 7.62x39 for example, but things like bolt breakage, non standard magazines or parts that frequently malfunction, and constant reliability issues take the fun out of even a range toy... but I guess it depends on the user's definition of fun, and the user's time and wallet. A suppressed 7.5 is a handy and fun combination in calibers designed to be suppressed, but utterly sucks in calibers that were never designed to be suppressed or run out of a barrel that short, IMO. I wouldn't dismiss a round that has been proven to work with this combination simply because I already have a build in that caliber. YMMV. Besides, remember the ARFCOM mantra, "Two is one. One is none." |

All the same parts as any other AR. I had a 7.5" years ago and no reliability issues. That was before I got into suppressors, though. |

So you are willing to spend $600-1000 (stamp included) just to lower the massive blast from a 7.5" 556 upper? I know cause I had one too. All to keep it super short? It will suppress like shit. Why .223? Why not get a CMMG 6.5" Dissent upper in 9mm? Use Mean arms Endo or Exo mags and use any of your AR15 lowers? And it can be a side folder. |

I was referring to alternative calibers in the ar platform vs reliability. It sounds like you want to do a full time suppressed 7.5" 5.56. Sure, they can be made to work reliably. Variety is the spice of life, build what you think you will like. For me the juice wasn't worth the squeeze trying to suppress a 5.56 that short... Ballistics are spotty...suppression is iffy...and it seemed like I was investing a lot of money for performance that was struggling to be mediocre in both categories. I chose to move away from 7.5" 5.56 for these reasons and stick with 300blk. Everyone's different, so YMMV. |

YouTube short for ya. Personally. This is just my opinion. Ballistics are fine if you run the right ammo at the right distance in short 556. It will do plenty of damage to a person down a hallway. I’m really not sure why people think an extra 3” of bbl suddenly makes things drastically different. Sure it will improve a bit but you may as well just run a full 20inch if we continue down that path. Anyway, mine suppressed very well I think. The video speaks for itself. ![]() Suppressed 8” 5.56 Not sure why this short won’t imbed. I tried all the known tricks to get it to work. No go. YT link |

No. Is it reasonable to grab in the middle of the night loaded with M855A1 and ready to rock and roll with an intruder without muffs? Yes. Still not hearing safe. But reasonable blast has been quelled and 40-60 rounds of “fuck you and go away” is fine. |

Those are just in 5.56/223 Add in a bunch of 9mm lengths for PCC. Of the ones I have. In the last year, the 11.5, 4.75, and 7.5 have the most use. The 11.5 is a HD gun. The other two are just for fun. But lately I have been looking more of the serious use of the 7.5 and 4.75. They are handy and ultra compact. Both of the super shorties have proven to be reliable as well. Only hard part about the 4.75 is the weird and ultra short gas system. The 7.5 uses the pistol length that is very common now. Either way you’ll enjoy it. Post photos. I need to put a new handguard on my 7.5. I don’t like the one on it. I also want to put a new handguard on the 4.75. Strangely I am also looking at the KAK complete upper in 7.62x39. I have a KS47 that would be a hoot with a super short barrel on it. |

What are you using? I remember looking at some Poboy vids from awhile ago, and I remember a bunch of loads didn't work, but a few did expand or fragment out of a 7.5" 5.56 M855A1, Hornady 55gr TAP, and Federal Mk318 still worked. The Barnes loads (.223 55gr and 5.56 70gr) did not. I don't know if a 5.56 62gr Barnes load would work, or a Fusion MSR load. |
