| What are some options for a short Tailhook Mod1 buffer tube? Trying to build my grandson a AR pistol to hunt with next year and want to keep the lengthy of pull short and the build light, he's kind of small. I have a Facebook kit with a tube but think it may be too long. Would like to keep a standard carbine buffer and spring of possible. That eliminates some of the retractable ones. |

From GHW: This version clamps to pistol buffer tubes or adapter spuds ranging from 1.17″ to 1.2″ in diameter. The common practice with the Tailhook is to lengthen the LOP as much as possible so tubes are extended, while keeping the internal length of a standard carbine tube. Try a search for a round pistol buffer tube with the diameter of 1.17" up to 1.2" diameter. |

I used the UTG Pro AR Pistol Receiver Extension Tube (TLU009). It provides an LOP of 11.25", fits the Tailhook perfectly, and is very stout. See avatar. Tailhook comes in a shortened version, but it is EXPENSIVE and also OOS... That is not what the OP is asking about, you show the Tailhook Mod 2 rather than the Mod 1 - not the same at all. . |

Just throwing it out there if he is trying to get super short.  My Mod 1 and Mod 1c are on Phase 5 buffer tubes, which are designed for the Mod 1/1C. If you are willing to not use a Tailhook brace, KAK makes a shortened buffer tube that cuts 1.5" off the length compared to a milspec buffer tube. I used a SB Tactical SBA3 brace that I trimmed down to fit the buffer tube. It's the same length as my LWRC UCIW stock and a very handy length.
