| Pmags with 18rd nordic extensions don't always work either. My experience with the surefire 60 mags is that they work. Sometimes they have to be shot a few times. |

Running at a match for the first time isn't a function test. You don't stop in the middle of a stage to diagnose a failure.
What ammo were you running? Long loads are known to have issues. |

Testing it at the range prior to the match is a function test, as stated earlier. A local match is also a function test, as standing around plinking isn't a complete function test either. Just because something works in a bay on a nice day doesn't mean it'll work reliably on the run and getting banged around. Federal XM193. Might have used some IMI XM193 also. Loaded/unloaded the mag several times last night. The double-stack nesting follower tilts too easily, allowing it to get stuck sometimes. Recoil apparently would help loosen it up during actual use. Any way you slice it, the mag didn't work out of the package, so the "highly reliable" statement on the packaging should have a statement to cycle the mag multiple times before using it.....assuming it can get to a reliable state here at some point. I'm not the only one to see problems with this mag so far. |

Don't get me wrong I'm no magpul fan boy they have had thier share of clusterfucks Magpul did have a recall of pmags in '07 however they paid for shipping http://web.archive.org/web/20071029094034/http://www.magpul.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=80_120&products_id=271 |

Lots of early-runs have problems in various products. I have no problem with that per se. Not here to dogpile on Surefire or Magpul or whoever. Just commenting on how this mag has worked (or not worked) so far. I'm a fan of products that work, for a general overview.

I am ready to pull the trigger on a couple of the 60 rounders. Anybody know of a "Black Friday" sale/ deal on these?
So far I see 44Mag.com has them for $109 but Quantico Tactical @ $96 ea in TX HTF is the best I have found so far. |

Going to contact Surefire about it. Tried it two days ago. It fed ok on semi-auto slow-fire, but it couldn't keep up on .14-17s trigger splits and the same failure would occur where follower would get stuck down and not feed rounds. 4 times......I only got 2-4 rounds off before the rifle would stop due to inadequate feeding (either no round would come up to be fed or the round would stub on the extension since it wasn't all the way up in the mag to feed correctly). This is after loading/unloading the mag at home no less than 6 times completely the day before. Doing it by hand, you can see at certain points where the follower is getting stuck and the rounds aren't coming up at all or just short of the lips.......they are basically loose in the mag and you can shake them out. |

ETA: just noticed 8.25% tax for TX residents. |

The first 10 I bought were returned to Magpul and replaced with a newer version. Magpul has had a few more updates since then. That said, all of my Pmags have always worked - even the first production run mags did. I am sure that either company will make good on their product if it does not perform well. |

60rd mag sent out to Surefire today. Good customer service on the phone, and they took the time to listen exactly to the trouble I was seeing as described in my previous post. The ammo OAL came up as a question from them, but the guy said Federal XM193 is not a problem child like some others out there, like 75gr and 77gr can be as the full load of that mass of bullet can overcome the spring strength according to the customer service rep. They are going to check out the mag and let me know if anything is out of sorts. |

Update: Got my 60rd mag back from Surefire yesterday. Haven't had a chance to live-fire it, but just loading it and unloading it manually worked better than the original experience. The follower wasn't getting stuck, and there was consistent spring pressure keeping rounds up against the feed lips. They didn't include any documentation if the mag was retrofitted with newer internals, replaced in full, or what. The mag body had some receiver insertion marks, but not sure if it was the same original mag I returned to them. Looking forward to giving it a go at the range.

Update to my post above: Dumped 60 rounds through the mag using Federal XM193 as fast as I could. It fed perfectly. No stoppages. Then, decided to use the last 25 rounds of Silver Bear 55gr I had in my overall stash in order to get rid of it and test the Surefire when partially loaded. Fed perfectly. Only tested the mag for those 85 rounds in one rifle, a RRA lower with PSA upper. The replacement mag that Surefire sent me is much better about consistent spring pressure pushing the rounds up and does not bind like the original one I had. Have to try it in my 3gun gaming AR still, but so far, I'm optimistic. |

While teaching a Patrol Rifle school this week I finally tested my Surefire 60.
120 rounds semi through a Colt 6920 - no problems 60 round full-auto mag dump through an HK 416 - no problems
This mag now sits fully loaded in my SHTF Colt 6920 (for zeds and honey badgers) ETA all the ammo was either Fed XM193 or Speer's XM193 equivalent |

Here's a video of one of my surefire100s running in auto. 300rds, 1 failure.

I'd really like to see them make these things run 100% and lower prices to a reasonable amount. Heck, for the cost of four of these stamped sheet metal and spring gadgets a guy can buy a new BCM upper. lol! Not above paying that if they get the bugs out I guess... Did they happen to cover shipping on your mag? Just curious. |

Hell, I would have settled for a technical description of what was wrong with the original for peace of mind.

I got my 60 out to the range. Ran fine w/ 120 rounds of silver bear 62 gr on my m16 When reloading I tried to get that last round in, and it jammed the mag all to hell. The rounds fell out and i had to bang it around to unlock the followers. Once the were free, it runs fine. I will have to take it out and do so more dumps and see what happens. |

They could have enlightened you to what course of action was needed to solve the problem. I'm amazed and disappointed that a company like Surefire stuck it to you on shipping their faulty product back. No class there. I remember years ago when I was dumb enough to try a couple Pro Mag Mini 14 Mag's. Neither would feed right. Made a phone call and they sent a call tag for both of the $12 Mag's and replaced in less than a week. $120 mag and Surefire bends the consumer over not once but twice. Damn. Hope it keeps working for you at least... |

Ran just at 1000 rounds through my 60 round tester. No issues so far. Have not done drop tests. Will be doing a prolonged test and eval and will update with more testing etc....
