I'm looking to build (or modify) an SBR either in 308 (looking to use a DB10 just to have and shoot and part out with LMT parts at some point) or several shops around me suggested the CMMG dissent in 338 arc. I don't know much on the 338 and the reviews all point to don't get it get the new 8.6. When I have the finances I will be throwing on a can currently have a 300bo with a yhm so I can swap it with a 308. I am aware that a 12 13in 308 is not practical since you lose a lot of what the 308 is. I like the hard hitting and then feel of ar10s outside of 15s. With my current 308 with a 24in barrel I want something smaller and lighter but still heavy hitting. (It would just be a range gun) What do you all recommend? |

| I have a (PTR) G3K with a 12" and a AR10 12" both are braced pistols (waiting for clarification on the NFA lawsuit). YES theres a lot of blast but still useful out past 300m, which is all I think you should expect from a small package. Remember it was the Brits that asked HK to come up a smaller rifle for getting in/out of vehicles used in N Ireland and they came up with the G3K (shortened G3/HK91). Outside an urban area some limitations begin to show with the shorter barrel. |

I don't know who you've been talking to but... A 12.5" 308 launches 150gr @ around 2350 fps with 1880 ft lbs Or 123gr @ 2650 fps with 1900+ ft lbs A 16" 7.62x39 (ie. Ak47) sends 123gr @ 2300 fps with 1500 ft lbs 20" 5.56 M855 @ 3100 fps with 1300 ft lbs That is practical enough for me for the size of the package. SF guys I have talked to in Afghanistan claim to have been killing people out to 600m with their 13" 308 SCARs. I'm sure these aren't 1 shot precision kills but apparently it does the job. A short 308 is not a 26" bolt action 308 that's designed to make small groups at 800m. Honestly that's what I prefer. I hate have XYZ rounds everywhere id personally rather stick to 1 or 2 types. I personally like the 308 since it's available anywhere at reasonable prices and if I'm broke broke I can run 7.62 through it. The shops mainly (but there trying to make a sale) but I've never had hands on with a 308 shorter then 18inch. My aero is a 18...20 maybe. But the weight and what not make it annoying. The more I think about it I'll probably stick with my initial thought and go with the DB10 since it's sold at PSA for $900ish then replace parts when I can. Trying to stay in the 1500 range so I can put an optic on it. |

Not an SBR but has a 16" barrel, threaded for a suppressor, AR style iron sights, and can shoot both super and subsonic 308Win: Ruger American Gen2 Scout 308Win |

I got a POF 12.5" .308 small frame AR. It's extremely lightweight and handy. I don't even touch my large frame .308 ARs anymore. Yes, it's loud and doesn't have the power of a full sized .308. But I got that covered with other guns (M-14 & Ruger SFAR). I'm on the hunt for a PTR-91 12.5" .308 as well. I've always loved those guns. I had a 18" PTR that was cut to 14.5" and had the flash hider pinned/welded for an OAL of 16". It was one of my favorites that I foolishly traded away. Ever since, I've wanted a 12.5" gun. |
