Ruger 10/22 FRT Mars Trigger (Page 2 of 4)
| Before you install it, could you get some pics of the parts and how they sit in the trigger housing? The trigger is self-explanatory, Im curious as to the lever looking part. I suspect it is held in with the crosspin that also holds the ejector, and am curious as to how it interacts with the bolt and trigger. |

Oh yeah It functions great. I was able to get 3-5rds before it choked on the dual recoil rods. I’ve got a Jager custom charger coming in a badass chassis. Guys - if you’re looking for a killer deal in a charger (they’ve become rare as hens teeth) go to Jager. Chargers in chassis This aught to be badass when it gets here. Ordered an adapter to convert the tube to a 1913 for a folding brace setup. The owner is cool as heck. We shot the breeze about what I needed for about 15 mins. Ordered at 5pm yesterday and it shipped this morning. |

How many rounds have you fired and what reliability level are you getting? Both of those mags sounded short but it’s hard to tell. How many rounds were in the mags? I’m trying to figure out why my buddy’s is so unreliable if other people are having success. If it worked well I would have expected to see more videos by now |

If it worked well I would have expected to see more videos by now First mag was a 25rd with cci SV 100% success. 2nd mag was 25rd bulk Winchester 333 roughly 15-20? Then a dead trigger. Charged it and ran out rest of mag. They run so incredibly fast. Just got the charger today so only 100 of each or so rds fired. Only failures is the supers. I get 1 per mag. Not sure if it’s out running it or what. CCI SV has been 100% 25 rounds a pop with no malfunctioning. Also I’m not running a Bolt hold open, they recommended removing it as it caused issues. I’m ordering a 50-100rd drum. I’ve heard pro mags are getting all but last 3-5 out? Hearing if you load it to 70 out of 75 you’re more than likely to empty the mag. Any feedback or suggestions? GSG ? I’m not a 22 expert at all |

I bet mine runs those supers lights out unsuppressed. But shooting w/o a can is just rude. Did he swap the recoil spring? |
|
Thanks for the info. Please keep it coming as you learn more. He’s tried his in two different hosts. One is an integral SBR and one is a full size. He’s using the supplied spring and no bolt hold open. He’s getting small bursts but lots of dead trigger, live round in chamber, bolt bounce across ammo types I need to get him to try different hammer and recoil springs. He’s had his for a month so I assumed they must have shipped a decently large number out |

These mags are better than bx25 or other mags in my Norrell https://hcmags.com/ They’re Norrell recommended which says a bunch from the fast fire 10/22 guru |
|
These are just out of package 5 or more year old bx 15&25 rd mags. The super sonic stuff gets only 3 rds and dead trigger suppressed. I’ll try unsuppressed tomorrow. These are cci SV with no issues in 15 and 25 ![]() May 8, 2026 |

@EDL I have a 10/22 FRT of my own design, never could get it to run though. It may run with the hammer and bolt spring from one of these kits. It MAY be possible to do a 3 position setup, but would have to have a lever on the side of the trigger like a Norrell select fire 10/22z. The amount of effort and machining it would take would easilly double the cost of the trigger kit. The 10/22 has a weird trigger system. Thats not to say that it cant or shouldnt be done- Im going to get one of these triggers and fiddle with it sometime in the future. If it seems plausible to do, then maybe I could get a little CNC mill and do the 3 position conversions as a 3rd party. It would add to the cost of a rifle build, but I know for a fact that some people would be willing to pay for it because I for sure would. |

I have a system that I developed years ago that improves the feeding and reliabilty of the ruger BX magines. With a rimfire, youll never get 100% reliability, but the feeding system is the second weakest link after the inconsistant ammo. I can do a step-by-step write up on how to do it and post it here if there is any interest. It is not super hard if you have basic mechanical skills and tools; the BX mags are pretty simple to take apart and put back together. The same system should apply to other mags and probably drums, but I cant garuntee that you can get the drum mags back together. Havent had one to play around with. Id like to get one of the GSG drums and see how well made they are, and if I can improve them. |
|
I’ll try that and see if the supers will work. CCI SV is fine but it’s pricey and I’ve got tens and tens of thousands of bulk pack rds If I can get the supers to run reliably I’ll buy a 5” bull barrel so they will stay subsonic. The 10” charger is loud even with a suppressor using bulk pack 1200/fps |

I also have two Black Dog drums that work good too. I did have a couple of Butler Creek magazines that needed some polishing on the upper left side since the bolt was dragging. |

I did a new bx25 mag today and took something like 90 pics of the process. Ill have to do a write-up and choose out of the pics which ones to use. Itll be sometime this week, and Ill post the tutorial in the 10/22 forum in the armory section. Ill post a link to it here when I post it. Never done anything like this- how many pics is too many? |

If you're uploading them to ARFCOM, you get 5 per post. If you're hosting elsewhere, you can put as many in as you'd like. The larger the resolution, the longer it will take someone to load, particularly on their phone. |

Awesome. I have had great luck with BX25’s, even when burning thru so much ammo in a day sage rat shooting that the gun needed to be cleaned by lunch to keep going. But I am always open to reliability improvements… Enough pics so that people who are not you can figure it out! Some of us have more gunsmithing/armorer skills than others, but everyone has to start at zero, so hopefully someone with zero experience can do it if you describe things well and photos assist with that. |
a loaded gun won’t set you free, so you say…

I sold some of those off (first gen) because reviews were not great on them in general compared to BX25’s…. (Plus the whole stripper clip idea just seems like another solution in search of a problem.) |

What would really help is a kit to convert 10-22 to a delayed blowback that slows down the action and also eliminates so much bounce where it has to be corrected by a spring and then a specific loading of ammo. I saw a pre-86 full auto 10-22 conversion that had a spring loaded ball bearing installed in the bolt that went into a drilled recess to do this - the owner said it ran anything and you could write your name with it. There were some other ways to address it, like Norells had a two-piece bolt and the rear half of the bolt acts like the dead blow- weight to stop bounce. In theory these closed bolt tricks should work in the same way for an FRT. |
|
The Norrell has both a sliding weight in the bolt and also a spring/pin that catches the bolt as it returns to battery. I’ve never used the HC Mags speed loader strips. The owner is definitely an engineer. He can outline the reasons why Ruger mags have problems and how he fixed it I’ve spent a ton of money chasing better 10/22 mags over the years and these are the best I’ve found I have current Gen mags so I’m not sure how well the prior gen worked or if they have issues |

@cherenkov On that pre-86 10/22, do you remember the rough location and orientation of the detent in the bolt? I have thought about doing this, for FRT purposes; but you could also make a suppressor host much more quiet and run cleaner if you got it tuned right. |

Yes I do - It was an SOT & FFL dealer I bought two pistols from in the Outdoor Trader Show in Marietta, GA. I bought a few Smith revolvers he had on the table - He was a dealer on the lower level and he had several nice MGs on the table, and some nice clean FN49s and a Beretta AR70 (not AR70/90) an early import AR70. He had some MGs, Ruger for $25K it was 2 years ago. I think it had also an integral suppressor. He was boasting about the conversion and not sure if it was all re-done after the original 86 conversion, I think it was a registered receiver and had been totally reworked by someone competent as it looked well done and nearly new. My machinist buddy looked it over more carefully than I did as he thought I should buy it - his friend had some wanky pre-86 10-22 conversion he didn't like and said to avoid them but he said this one was way different and better. Having just bought an M2 carbine, I was tempted but the Mrs unit would have been upset had I bought another MG. |

The Norrell location can be seen in the front left of the trigger pack in a pic in this thread https://www.ar15.com/forums/armory/inside_a_full_auto_10_22_trigger_group/11-449380/? |
| I was wondering if the detent in the Norrell MG was what he was referring to. It could be done in other locations on the bolt potentially. The bolt itself could hold a detent or detents. Ill eventually expirament with it, should make for a more reliable FRT host. |
