New heavy SS barrel never shot has heavy throat burrs that cannot be flaked out with a soft steel pick. Apparently a very dull finish reamer was used and smeared metal instead of cutting it. A bad neck injury has prevented me from messing with it until recently. | I have already placed a request with the manufacturer to find out my options since the barrel was purchased over well 2 years ago. I would like to keep it if there is an easy remedy and a chance to have a decent shooting barrel... say around 1.5" @ 100yds. I thought that a very light finish reamer or throat reamer pass could free them or maybe a light rotary lapping with a proper tapered brass lap. I do not want to seriously consider any of these until experienced advice points me toward a likely fix. |

If you spent a lot of money on the barrel, the manufacturer should warranty it. If it is a cheap barrel, you might spend more money on tools or shop time, and still end up with nothing. I have +20 years of machine shop experience, and wouldn't bother with that barrel even as a project. |
