Hello, all I was hoping to get some feedback on a new AR. I don’t have specific usage for this gun. Just a solid AR with good equipment. I have about $3500-$4000 to invest. I was thinking Daniel Defense DDM4 or M4A1 I’m leaning toward something for home defense 14.5 barrel w suppression? Red dot or holographic site? Other? I could put more money into it but really don’t want to… I’ve been out of the gun game for years and I’m lost as to how to put it together. I currently have a DDM4 and a few others at the moment. I could use some help from resident experts. Yeah I’m new here. (Kinda) Thanks for all your time. |

All of my ARs are 16” barrel configurations. I’ve recently moved to a residential community beach town in NC, from six acres in Virginia. So I haven’t adapted much from shooting off of my back porch…I’m currently looking at a few ranges to join. I don’t do any kind of tactical shooting (I would if I could) I’m slightly disabled at the moment. (Back issues) |

I have built several thousand ARs since 2014 at two AR dedicated stores I have worked in. I've seen everything from bargain basement guns to the so-called top tier offerings. In my humble opinion there's not a lot of actual differences between the two extremes as relates to practical usability. Most of the differences are the various controls and a few bells and whistles. I have seen folks with lower end ARs shoot circles around high dollar rifles in competition all day long. The most important things to me are good quality barrels, better triggers, and lots of RANGE TIME! You can buy great ARs for a lot less than what you have budgeted, and spend the balance on ammo, trigger time, and good sights. An awful lot of the high dollar guns I see at the range aren't shot enough by their owners for them to really take advantage of any "betterness" to justify the cost. Now this is just my opinion, but it's based on a lot of real world observations and experiences. I realize my comments will offend some people on this site. That's not my intention. Used SR15 or LMT with NX8 or K16i and a suppressor of your choice with a light and sling. If you want new get a factory SBR in 11.5" from colt. The new CZ-Colt offerings are awesome and most use MI or Centurion as their OEM handguards. Attached File Attached File 11.5 EPR Commando |
