Seems that the Dissent is a more expensive FM 15. Seems like the exact same operating system too. At least it comes in . 300, which likes short barrels. 5.7 is a weird pick. 9mm would be better.

Seems like we're seeing a renaissance of bufferless options lately.

Edit: TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS? Has CMMG lost their minds? That's about what it cost me to set up my FM-15, and it has the benefit of being an 11.25". This just seems nonsensical to me.

I’d rather have the Jakl but in the mean time my XCR is good to go.

Interestingly, the 5.7 is radial delay blowback, not DI like the others.

I have respect for the amount of time that PSA put into making the Jakl right.

What are you going to do with a 6.5" 5.56?

I’m definitely going with the Jakl here, piston operated and an extra ~1000-1500 rounds for the same price. #Meh

Sure does not seem $1000 better, who do they think they are, H&K?

I'm glad to see all of these new pistol version come out....mostly because they kick the brace ban (as written) square in the nuts.  "Remove the brace" takes on a completely different tone when there is no buffer tube to worry about.

I agree.   6.5" 5.56 is obnoxious to shoot and gives up a lot of velocity.

7.5" BLK on the other hand is very useful.

Totally agree on the barrel length. 6.5” 5.56 is an automatic non-starter for me. If I’m going below 10.5”, it’s going to either be 300BLK or a pistol round. It almost seems like CMMG got lazy with not wanting to vary the handguards for the sake of the launch, but who knows their logic there.

What I think of first is who is going to offer uppers/built kits first? And which one is going to actually be available when you want one without waiting months on a list?

6.5 is too short for me. I hated my 7.5.

I like the monolithic aspect of the jakl.

For a Bug-Out Bag or Get-Home Bag, I'd pick the Dissent in 300BLK.  It's short enough to fit in any normal sized backpack, which is a huge plus in my book.

For home defense either would work suppressed (300BLK again).

Options and choices are good to have.

Considering the JAKL in 300BLK will have a 7.5” barrel, would you pay an extra $1k (including brace) for the Dissent? If so, why?

For me, the fact that the JAKL is piston operated with an easily adjustable gas block, is a nice plus. 8-9” is my preferred 300BLK barrel length, so the JAKL best fits that. And I can’t see paying an extra $1k for 1” shorter barrel even if size is a big concern.

I’ve noticed that CMMG did a media blitz for the Dissent launch. They sent out samples to a dozen different YouTubers, some not very large but they also sent them to DemolitionRanch who is huge. The more I watch these videos, my initial reaction of sticker shock is confirmed. I’m just not seeing a justification for the price considering the JAKL and MCX on either end of the price scale, not to mention the FM-15 that some people really like.

I have a Sig Rattler, and IMHO it is worth every penny I paid for it.

But the CMMG Dissent is a very different animal.  If I didn't have a Rattler, I'd pick it over the Dissent.  If the actual price of the Dissent is lower (around $1500) it might be worth the squeeze.

Betting weight will be the biggest difference, between the two. Dissent is weighing in at 4.8 pounds with no stock/brace or mag/sights, what's the JAKL weight?

One individual claimed his JAKL was .6 pounds heavier than a similarly equipped AR-15.

I agree, the JAKL’s upper has an overall larger profile than a standard AR, which the Dissent is much closer to.

I think you’re referring to my YouTube video, 10.5” AR pistol w SBA3 vs JAKL w folding brace. Yes the JAKL was a little heavier but not very noticeable in hand.

My apologies, was your video. Not sure why I didn't put the profile pics together haha.

If you don't mind my asking, what is the actual weight of the JAKL setup that you have?

No worries
Mine weighed in at 6.95lb including the red dot and brace. The triangle brace was 0.5oz lighter than the FS1913 I’m now using.

Looks like the Dissent  will be approx  1 to 1.5 pounds lighter than the JAKL, braces included.

Jakl is 6 lbs 8.8 oz according to PSA in another thread.

That's just under 2 pounds difference. But I'm sure it includes the brace.

Out of what I have seen so far, and what my needs are for a firearm in this class, the jakl will fit my needs better...

It has a bit taller height upper to it, which lends itself well to NV height sights...

It is piston driven, so it should be less gassy when suppressed...

It also has a monolithic top rail, which means its perfect for a scope and a thermal clip on, LAM, etc...

Plus, I love PSA... They have made firearms as affordable as any one company could...So, I support them as much as I humanly can...

Now, all the above means nothing if the system sucks or is not reliable long term...We shall see, but all things being equal, I like the JAKL, and will be getting an upper as soon as they come out with a 300 BO one... YeY...
It is time for the tree to be refreshed.

Jakl all the way for me.

PSA stands behind thier product, and is constantly improving. Cant say much for other companies in this market besides Sig.

Not to mention the price gap.... I mean wow..

As others have said: huge price gap, barrel length for 5.56 is a joke. I’ll stick with the JAKL I plan on ordering soon.

The JAKL is monolithic and doesn’t use a 4140 barrel. Not a HUGE deal, but why pay more for cut corners.

The JAKL wins in 300BLK, if it ever goes for sale.

The 300 was the first version to be released, but it wasn't.  It was then supposed to be released 6 months ago, but it wasn't.

We were most recently told (in JAKL versions thread) by PSA that the JAKL in 300 would be out by the end of the month(last month).  But it wasn't.

The Dissent is lighter, uses more standard parts (barrel, HGs), and costs more.

The DGI should print tighter pairs and faster splits... the long stroke may (should?) have a relevant reliability advantage when a good amount of data is in?

The long stroke will be a better suppressor host.

The monolithic aspect of the JAKL doesn't come into relevance until a duty grade barrel becomes available.
