| Does anyone have one of the PSA 11.5" 223 pistols they're selling have an OAL with the butt stock collapsed and extended? |

From the PSA site, This forged lower is quality made using 7075-T6 aluminum and is marked "MULTI" for caliber. The finish is hard coat anodized. Finished with an A2 Classic ODG Grip, H&R HAR-15 ODG Adjustable Pistol Stabilizing Blade, and 6 position 7075 buffer tube. The fire control group is a PSA mil-spec single-stage assembly. |
| I do. I ordered that particular pistol and it just came in. O.A.L. with brace collapsed is 27.5". With brace extended, 30.75". Doesn't that mean putting on a VFG is legal? Or does the O.A.L. not include the birdcage flash hider since it's not pinned and welded? O.A.L. without counting the flash hider is 25.5" collapsed, 28.75" extended. |

Braced pistols are measured different than rifles on the back end. Remove the brace and measure from end of the buffer tube on an AR pistol. |
| Gotcha. Thanks. The O.A.L. of this pistol is at least 25.5" from the end of the buffer tube to where the flash hider meets the shoulder of the threaded portion of the barrel. I'm not sure of the length of threads inside the flash hider. I could remove the muzzle device, but I need to also remove the optic to clamp the upper into the vise adapter. Might do that later. Anyone know if there's a typical length on an AR barrel, from the threaded portion's shoulder to the end of the muzzle? |

I bought a PSA pistol lower with standard carbine buffer tube, then put a 11.5" barreled upper on it last year. End of buffer tube to end of barrel (no muzzle device installed) I believe was 25.625" or 25.75". I put an A5 buffer system on it to get over the 26" mark. This way I don't have to worry about registering it as a pistol in Michigan, and I can put a vertical grip on it if I want. While I don't remember the exact length, I did enough research to know the A5 buffer tube added enough length to get me safely over the 26" length. |

…This way I don't have to worry about registering it as a pistol in Michigan... Doesn’t topping off a pistol lower with an 11.5” barrel make it a pistol regardless of overall length? I don’t live in Michigan so don’t know the intricacies of the laws there. . |

Unfortunately In Michigan if the overall length of a firearm is less than 26" it is supposed to be registered with the state as a pistol. This applies to any firearm, so even a legal SBR per Federal law that is under 26" has to be registered as a pistol here. If I can keep the overall length above 26" that eliminates any concern about the registration law. |

Although it can and has been done by many, using a clam shell fixture on the upper receiver to do anything to the barrel is not the right way to do it. In some cases, it can lead to broken locator pins and/or upper receivers. The best tool would be a midwest industries action rod or, at the least, a magpul bevblock. |

| Gotta disagree. If you are doing barrel muzzle work, use a barrel block in a vise. I have the Bev-Block as well as my favorite upper receiver tool, the MI MURR rod, but if you have to do muzzle work, like a stuck muzzle device and you really have to crank down on it, neither the Bev-Block nor the MURR is going to prevent turning the barrel the BE (if it was not torqued correctly). I have spun a barrel in the BE using a receiver holding device when the BE had not been torqued properly, and I was only applying 30-40 ft-lbs of torque on the muzzle device trying to get it off. Lesson learned. No receiver vise, Bev-Block, or upper receiver Rod of any make would have prevented the barrel from turning in the BE since the BE it was not correctly installed. |
