In for the discussion too. It always seems to devolve to people sharing the opinion that they sucked, but never articulating why in detail. I think it's a good concept, and too bad there aren't better-executed examples on the market. I'm looking for options for a future belt-fed build, and don't want to have the extra weight of a bipod on the end of the rail. |

For an AR/M4, I thought they worked fine as a bipod. They tended to break pretty easily when guys tried to use them on SAWs. They worked as VFGs if people held them like a broom stick, the classic vertical "gangster grip." They sucked if you used them as a hand stop, thumb over bore, or any other high grip. The big box where they attached just sucked for that. Good concept, I used one for years before I changed my grip enough that it didn't work with the Grip Pod, and I switched away from them. I think I had 3 of them at one point, two FDE ones for my civilian SCARs, and one that was half painted I used on my issued M4 (later M4A1). Anywho, here's baby me back in '09 using one to "pull security" (nap) on a PLT exercise at Bragg. Had some Army photographers following us around for some reason, and they took this picture.

Considering what they were and what was available when they came to market they were good kit… But this was when it was thought you should grip any foregrip in a hammer grip. We just didn’t know better at the time. 20+ years later would I use one now, no. But that should be expected as nothing is stagnant. |

They aren’t great at being a grip, or at being a bipod. But, they are better than neither. They are pretty heavy too, if that’s a concern. Back in the early 2000s, they were pretty common. Attached File |

They are a shitty grip and a shitty bipod and they are heavy. However they are "a grip" and "a bipod" and they are convenient take up less space than separate ones and do help some as well. I would not recommend one but its not completely without merit. The single push button automatic spring loaded deployment is very fast and very easy. It can also be easily and quickly stowed with a single hand. So that is something i guess. There was more than one model or generation and the later ones are significantly stronger. There were also some knock offs that are truly shitty. You would be better off buying a used milsurp or genuine one than a new knock off. |

I got one decades ago I never used until recently. I put it on my work gun because many of the quals involve getting into prone on the clock and making accurate hits. Its been to a few classes and trainings and I like what it does so far. I dont see the hate. It works. |
