Obviously the TS-30 is a vari-x scope which was a 3-9x36 mil-dot scope with a M3 turret (non-illuminated). At this time, I don't have any nsn number for this scope or know if it was even assigned one or the number that Leupold actually manufactured and sold.

The TS-30 A2 was made and sold in the 2002, 2003 timeframe, again no nsn number or numbers sold. Nearly all pictured have a k serial number for 2002.

These were the only scopes that were actually marked in this way and sold to the military, basically pre-mark 4 for these models.

The TS-30  became model 57075, the Mark 4 3-9x36 MR/T M3 non-illuminated mil-dot reticle (but with significant design changes)

The TS-30 A2 became model # 57055 the Mark 4 3-9x36 MR/T M3 illuminated mil-dot reticle (no change in design)

Leupold primarily supplied model number 57055 in the 2003-2006 timeframe for military contracts

In 2006, Leupold redesigned the previous years models and introduced the Mark 4 2.5-8x36 and the TMR reticle

The following scope model was supplied by Leupold under contract in the following years
Model # 60150 the Mark 4 2.5-8x36 M2 illuminated mil-dot

Leupold continued to supply this scope model in contracts until approximately 2010 at which time it was redesigned/small changes were made and it became
Model # 67920 the Mark 4 2.5-8x36 MR/T M2 illuminated mil-dot.

Once again in 2012, the scope was redesigned/small changes made and it became
Model #112633 the Mark 4 2.5-8x36 MR/T M2 illuminated TMR.

Model numbers 60150, 67920 and 112633 have all at one time or another been NSN 1005-01-562-0953 which was created in 03/08.
So I suppose at this stage if you have either model #'s 57055, 60150, 67920 or 112633 you would be clone correct. I did get a few contract numbers to look up, if I gather anything more I will put it out there.

Is any scope that actually has TS-30 on the side of it a military scope? I just have not seen any recently that have the actual markings on it. The TS30-A2 that everyone is buying does NOT have the letters TS30-A2 on the side of it. Is that a correct statement?
Then you mentioned the 3-9 was non-illuminated. So we're the scopes pictured before that time period? Attached File

The current production 2.5-8's do not say "TS30A2" on the side. The ones used at the time the MOD 1 was fielded did not either. Here is a picture of an early SAM-R with what I assume is "TS30" marked on the side since there are only 2 lines of text. The ones marked "TS30A2" have three lines of text with "A2" being on the last line. So I assume since it's only 2 lines of text that it's marked "TS30". Picture quality isn't great at all.http://imgur.com/a/2wGi5

My scope is a 2007 2.5-8x36 and I had the M1 knobs.  Sent it to Leupold and they installed the M2 knobs.  They DO NOT do M1 to M3, only M2 and the cost was $120. and that was with return shipping.  It took roughly 6 weeks if I remember correctly.

The scopes that were supplied by Leupold under various contracts have not been marked in any way in almost 15 years. The scopes marked TS-30 non illuminated 3-9x36 M3 turret and TS-30 A2 illuminated 3-9x36 M3 turret were supplied to the military around 2001-2003 time frame. After that time frame the supplied scopes were not marked in any way different than a standard Mark 4. If you were able to procure an actual marked TS-30 or TS-30 A2 from a legitimate source, yes it would an actual scope supplied by Leupold during the first contracts in the 2001 - 2003 timeframe.

Wow. I had no idea they were that old. No wonder you don't see them anymore. Good work. That answers a lot of questions.

Mad4wd- I need 4 for my kits. My thinking was I'd get extras for whoever wanted them. I found one on eBay in the raw but it was just one random guide someone had. I don't think it's worth it to you to just do 4. The guy that did the powdercoating on my car can strip the anodizing and redo them black. I looked around and wheeler makes one and there was another blue one but I forgot the name.

Wow,

BTW:
For a proper MK12 MOD 1 barrel, is bead blast stainless steel or duracoat black (0nly coating option from Compass lake) over SS correct?

I think the issued barrels used black KG Gun Kote so duracoat would be a fine substitute if that's all that is available. I had ADCO KG Gun Kote mine before they assembled it.

Gun-kote matte grey is the correct finish.  You can buy an aerosol can from brownells that's an exact match

Tamboi's been bulldogging the issue for a while, glad to see some more super-sleuthing going on. We've also got a gent from the FB group working on the KalGard-KG Coating issue, he sprayed some KG Flat Desert Tan and we're going to try and get ole Wang to take some proper pictures that can be color corrected.

Also have had some traction on the SAM-R, I think Coil and I have talked with the same guy but there's someone at PWS digging around the shared drive and asking Gunnys that were around during the timeframe some questions. Apparently the east coast SAM-Rs with the railed GB were made in more numbers than thought before because KAC was slow delivering, so they just kept making their own blocks with the bayonet lug. Still no verification if those railed GB versions actually got deployed or not. The KAC type ones seemed to have pics from early Afghanistan MEU and from Iraq. Who knows, maybe some more scrounging will turn up pics that weren't previously thought to be SAM-Rs.

But I digress. Things are happening, and sadly Arf's email signup policy/process has kept some cool guys getting in here. Particularly the same gent who is going to maybe do one of the early SPR prototypes and get a copy of the prototype FSB machined up.

As to the TS30 again, there is at least one 3-9 looking scope but it may have been something else. Certainly the one Minuteman saw in 2004 was a 3-9 Vari or MR/T with M3 and illum Mildot on that wheel FSB gun. Then there's this one on a Mod 1 with the ARMS S-EX sleeve:

I think that's your original TS30 or Vari-X based 3-9 right there.

Lance, yup the turret elevation housing is the giveaway, the few pics out there of the TS-30 all show the same almost rounded box side housing. Looks actually pretty cheap looking compared to the TS-30 A2.

Not defending JP, but I suspect in addition to the hassle of changing the manf. process (even if it is just as simple as pulling 25 units off the line before shipping to the anodizer (or inhouse process, etc)), there is the warranty aspect as well - sending out item in the raw might be a hassle down the line if any issues.

EDIT-you were correct it is definatrly not the Dewey bore guide. I'm trying to find different pics of the possum hollow and jp guides at different angles. They look very similar. The possum hollow is black, made of 100% delrin and they designate it for the mk12. The mk12 designation by them is marketing I know. The JP is red and made of anodized aluminum. The material that it's made of could be a dead giveaway possibly.

Compass lake has my early mod 0 barrel right now doing gun-kote. I might call them today and if it's not done make sure it's matte gray. I told them black. Had no idea it was gray.

As far as JP goes. It wasn't that they wouldn't sell me the bore guides the way I wanted and I do understand these kits are over 10 years old and probably different guys are there now that know nothing about what they did in the past. What pissed me off is I don't think my questions were unreasonable or disrespectful in any way. I was simply trying to achieve a goal. I didn't ask anything retarded like can you go pull one bore guide and put pin strips on it just for me and oh by the way I want it for 50% off. .... I said I understand it's not a simple thing so I would take 20-30 if that's what it took. What rubbed me wrong was the guy had zero interest and then like I'm a fucking idiot says why don't you cerakote them in all caps. I would have rather he didn't answer my inquiry at all. But.....I digress. Moving on.
I will get a pic of the slot tonight. I'll message MAD4WD tonight also. There are two candidates. JP and wheeler. Either way my guy here can strip and anodize them. Or we can see about MAD4WD plan. I'll tell you one thing, I have not come this far to be missing a bore guide. Not happening. I'm also looking into having a bunch of the black hills Ballistic cards made so stay tuned for that. Got my mildot masters yesterday. Pretty cool little booklet.

I think they're anodized aluminum, so odds are if it even worked at all, they'd come out some freaky purple color.

he would not tell me what kind of aluminum they are made from either. My anodizing guy asked me but I didn't know. I asked JP but he wouldn't say. The red has to be stripped off then they are anodized black which he said is an easy thing to do unless they are cast aluminum. Which I don't believe they are.

Chenault I sent you an email. Asking if matte gray is on all barrels for the mk12. I need to call CLE to tell them. They are doing my early mod 0 barrel. If it's not already done. Otherwise black it is.

Are we positive on the barrels being KG coated in grey?  ADCO used to have an old MK12 thread in their industry forum, which I can't find anymore, that I swear they stated it was black.  I thought that would be reliable info coming from them and the info they had at the time.  When I sent my parts to them years ago to have my barrel coated and upper assembled they did it in black.  Where is the color information coming from?

Previously-mentioned KAC rails are first-batch sold out, but the gentleman tells me he's picking up more within the next couple days.  If you want a rail, I'd get in touch with him ASAP to get on his list.

That was the information I got from Kevin at High Caliber Sales, all of his barrels come in that color.  The color is not grey as I normally think of it, it's a really dark grey almost black with a hint of blue kind of, it could easily be mistaken as black. In the pic below my MK12 upper is from HCS and my holland has the same color which I got from brownells.  They match up, perhaps I'm wrong but that was the info I was given.

That very well could be right coming from Kevin then.  I don't see ADCO listed in the Industry Forum any more.  I wanted to go through that thread again but I can't find it.  There were pictures of Mod1 uppers lined up on tables being assembled.  I'm thinking it would to have been at Crane.  I wonder back then before the cloning got so serious that if the real barrels were "almost black" that was good enough for clone barrels to be black.

I remember that photo, it's the one where all the barrels look profiled for the most mod 0.  I feel likd I just saw that pic recently.

Ok I found the photo, it's on the link to all the MK12 photos on page 1.  I can't copy the pic from my phone so someone at a computer consol will have to do that.  They do look matte grey though

I figured coming from Kevin that's correct info

No he's kind of making a valid point. It would, in reality, take no real effort for them to pull a couple of unfinished units out of a lot and sell them with the disclaimer that if any damage occurs through use of that product they can not be held accountable. This in turn would make 30 customers very happy because you went above and beyond and those 30 people will tell 30 people and those 30 people will tell another 30 and so on. You have just created an amazing reputation with nothing more than a simple gesture. Instead they take the same position you do and say it's only 30 people I'm not going to put any effort into that and they say no. Now someone who has skill and machinery makes a copy of said product and it gets distributed to 30 people on the side. Said company finds out and now shows up with a lawyer and a lawsuit for copyright infringement. So now a mess has been created and those 30 people that didn't matter before now matter when it cost you the 300 bucks you didn't care enough about before. So in turn this mess that has been created has no cost you hundreds if not thousands of future sales when word gets out....and any member of arfcom knows it will. So it is really just about customer service and how much a company really cares about keeping their customers happy. At the end of the day it is their product and they will do what they will and it is their right to do so. But at the end of the day that .000001% of the market can make or break a business.

What's the consensus on dimpling a barrel for the gas block? Necessary or not?

My DSG barrel didn't come with dimples, will it hold up to use if I throw a gas block on and screw it on tight with some locktite?

I would put at least one in and let the other ride the barrel. The jigs are only like 30 bucks and it takes like 5 mins. At least if you put one in under the gas port the block won't go anywhere.

ETA - I have a jig you could use if you need one....wouldn't mind letting you borrow it.

I tried to get mine to build a SEAL Recce, but then she saw a purple handguard on some facebook page she follows.  So she built a Recce that's not extensively SEAL-ish.
