There's a lot of conflicting info I'm finding in regards to this. If the pistol has an OAL of greater than 26" with the law folder while the buffer tube is extended would I be able to use a VFG and turn it into a firearm? Some thing's I found said the if the gun if fully functional then it does count, others say because it could still technically fire one round you have to measure while it's folded? Just looking for some clarity. Thanks |

It is really hard to follow all of the ATF's rules sometimes, but as far as I know, you have to measure with a brace folded if you have a folder on a pistol. ATF started that in 2019. I don't believe it matters whether the gun will cycle when folded, as long as it is capable of firing. |

Hard to define "functional" in my opinion, if it fires one round but then is unusable is that truly functional? It's definetely not functioning as intended or fully operational. You could substitute "buffer tube" for the word "stock", because it doesn't matter. My bad for the incorrect verbiage. Function doesn't matter. There are single shot firearms with folders as well, mine was a T/C Contender. They are treated the same as repeaters when it comes to folders. |

How many times has ATF changed its mind about braces since then? ETA: I'd have more confidence if that info came from a FAQ on their website. (I've looked.) |
