So question: I’ve seen pics from a couple guys here and in the MK12 thread of NSW/MK12 rifles sporting the Mk4 1.5-5x20. Is this a clone correct optic? I like the size weight and lower end magnification. I was torn between this and a MK-12 build.... I’m gonna move forward with the NSW Recce since I will be able to use it more on my close range range. I want to stay clone correct so I listed my Burris 1-5 again today. If the Mk4 1.5-5 is clone correct that will open some options up for me. |

So I'm curious about a couple things....
1) I was under the train of thought that C AF uppers would be original iteration (lilja/249f) recce's with the later seen being C keyhole uppers. And I'm basing this off colt forge marking timelines. 2000-2003 would be AF with 04 on being the switch to Cerro. Raised C keyhole from 04 to 07 and the switch to the stamped C in 08 being stamped C keyhole from 08 to about 16 when the square forge uppers started filtering out. So does anyone have any info that might contradict this? 2) NF x24's. The one I picked up only has one spot on the magnification ring for a PTL. I've noticed rereleased x24's have 2 on the mag ring. So is this an indicator of original run vs rerelease. Regardless does anyone have anymore info on differences between the 2? Also is the letter on the serial number a date code? ETA - so bc I'm OCD and I can't let shit go I think I answered one of my own questions. I think the x24 I got is an original run. I'll put this out for info in case anyone is wondering. The pics below show the following....new production or re-release, have two positions for the throw lever on the magnification ring. One is at 3x-4x one is at 10x. On mine I have only one at 10x. Also on new production the Nightforce on the Illumination knob is in a hollow font. On mine it is in solid thinner font. Now Nightforce I believe did a couple re-release runs. You have an OG triple OG. I have an OG 2nd production run but not a re-release (Fairly certain based upon the old one I had and should have never let go of). All the re-released ones have the hollow font and not the solid font like both of ours I think. It would be like phase 1 or phase 2 rollout for ours. I have had mine prior to any re-releases also. I'm going to give NF a buzz on Monday and see if I can get this confirmed for sure. I'm with you in the OCD club. What does yours say in the bottom left and right of the reticle? Q#2 - You are correct for the most part on the AF vs. Cerro keyhole, etc., etc. however like we all know, parts can stay in the rotation longer and live past the mfg timelines so based on that it is possible to have an AF upper receiver on more than just the Lilja/249F combo upper but you are correct to say its legit. Hopefully I made sense there? As already discussed, you can't usually go wrong with the Colt Cerro Keyhole upper.

Unless one were a 9536 Gunner's Mate at NSWDG, a civilian armorer at NSWDG, or an operator at NSWDG, how could you possibly know what forgings were used? .....outside of any of those three jobs, its pure speculation.
And why worry about a forge mark when dudes are using NF capped turrets, recent release x24s, Titusville rails, AE cans, etc. ? I'd say build what you think is close enough, shoot it, and enjoy it. |

Those small details are important or the “fun part” to some of our cloners. It’s part of their passion and I dig it. There was a guy who rattle canned his Holland to the point where he did the same paint mistakes that the operator had in the picture. That attention to detail and historical accuracy is important. We don’t have “history” books and miles of forge or arsenal marking documentation like the WWII guns have. We have the cool ass people who give a shit about the rare, the small stuff and I’m proud to be around them. |

I mean, I totally get the clone thing...I have a couple myself. I totally get that the parts search is part of the fun, too. I was sort of just playing devil's advocate (dumb asshole). It's funny how we cut corners in one area but stress out on the details of another.
...and yeah, I hate Hollands, but that one painted to match the issued one is fuckin tight. Back to pics.

Teetering on the idea of doing an engraved lower because I'm kinda tired of picking up lower's from my FFL . What would be the optimal choice for a RECCE? A1 lower with M16A1 engraving or A2 with M4A1 engraving?

Post: This is in regard to the original 2.5-10x24 Mil-R and MOA scope seen on the MK12 mod 1 and NSW Recce. We (the fellas) have been trying to confirm 100% if there are any differences between the original scope and the new re-released ones. (For those that haven't followed the thread and stumble across my long post) (lesson learned for me)
Fellas- Talked to NF. NF Tech: "The internals of the original and re-releases are very, very similar if not identical". Me: We've identified that the original x24 has solid lettering and the re-releases appear to have hollow lettering on the turret. There is also no PTL location on the original x24 and the re-release is between 3 and 4. Is this correct and what other differences are there? NF Tech: "You are correct with the 2 variances and there really isn't anything else other than suttle external changes" Me: Can you give me any specifics or more details of those changes? NF Tech: "We have matched the external turrets with our current production run style turrets". This would be why the original lettering is solid and the re-release lettering is hollow. Me: Did you guys do these re-releases in phases or can you give me anymore details about that? NF Tech: "Hang on and let me check." "There are 4 companies that we shipped to for the re-release". "Europtics, Midway USA, Mile High shooting, and Sports optics." "I'm not sure how many to each but I can tell you that I don't see that model leaving here very often". I'm not going to put the rest of the convo in this post but if you guys have any additional questions, I will certainly share anymore details about my convo with NF. I think this answers our questions. I confirmed that original and re-release should have MilR in left side of optic window and R168 in the right side which is NF's internal product code. Also the "slug" at the 10 power on both orig and re-release goes into the internal parts of the scope and is part of the power change screw. (Not to be messed with). I had a couple of extra minutes and took the liberty to check who still has this scope in stock. (Don't rush to get yours and sell em' out before I get another one)
