Who is making mounts for the m5s?
Looking for a good deal on one |

Scalarworks |

They don’t take standard micro footprint mounts? |

I don't think so, but I could be wrong. This is one of the reasons I decided not to get a M5s. The battery tube must hit the mount. The Scalarworks link is showing for the M5 not the M5s. I don't think they make a mount for the "s". I'm sticking with my T2's. Quoted:

Quoted: If you look closely enough at the M5S you will notice that the battery tube does not protrude past the bottom of the mount surfaces of the optic. It is not like the M4S, you should be able to mount the M5S directly on the mount without any spacers. Aimpoint should have pointed that out but they never did, so everyone just assumed that it was the same as the M4S in regards to mounts. |

There seems to be a lot of misinformation about the M5S when it comes to mounts. I have one so I know first-hand (I also had an M5 which I sold to get the M5S). Because the battery tube is at the side bottom as opposed to the side top, Aimpoint had to extend the bottom of the optic itself down farther to accommodate the lowered tube. What this does is require a different height factory spacer than the standard M5 to bring the optic to absolute co-witness or lower 3rd height. Thats it. Nothing more than that. Different height factory spacers to achieve absolute co-witness or lower 3rd height. The interface to to any micro mount, with or without the included factory spacer, is exactly the same as any prior Aimpoint Micro Optic.
Scalarworks and others have designed mounts for prior micros that eliminate what, until the M5S, used to be the standard factory spacer height. So unfortunately, you can't use them. An M5S will interface perfectly but the height will be about a 1/4 inch higher than you want. Sucks balls, because I love Scalarworks mounts in particular. So what you have to deal with when considering a mount is "can I use the factory spacer that came with my M5S?" That means if you have your factory spacer for your M5S, you can use ANY existing micro mount that allows the end user to utilize their own Aimpoint Factory spacer. So that means yes to all of the existing micro mounts that are standard base units without a built-in spacer of their own. I didn't like the LRP mount that came with mine so I swapped to the Bobro (and because I have a SCAR I special ordered my Bobro with a right-hand side lever...the same side as the low battery tube in fact, and it worked great) and then ultimately to the Aimpoint standard micro mount. |

| If you watch this video it's easy to see that the low battery tube of the M5S would not prevent you from from installing a mount directly to the optic without spacers. > Link. |

Now if you just need to be at absolute co-witness or lower third height, you’re good to go as long as you use the M5S’s unique-height spacer. |

Yes Sir you are correct on both this and your prior post. Only “trouble” I see with mounting an M5S (without spacer) straight onto a standard low micro mount is that it would be about a 1/4 higher than any of the prior Aimpoint Micros. Now if you just need to be at absolute co-witness or lower third height, you’re good to go as long as you use the M5S’s unique-height spacer. Quoted:

I'm planning to use either the M5 or M5S without any spacers (just mounted directly to the mount) on possibly two out of my three Beretta ARX-100s. I haven't really decided on which one I want to go with yet, but I'm leaning towards the M5S because the M5 might sit a bit too low. |

Quoted: My thought with the small window size of the Aimpoint micros and the M5/M5S is that co-witnessing with irons is very cluttered... Sure it's possible, but I'd rather have the optic mounted to a good QD mount and just remove it if I need to use the irons. I would have to do the same thing on any rifle with a magnified optic to use the irons anyways, so I never considered co-witnessing a big deal for myself. Of course not everyone has the same view on this as me and that's okay too. I'm wanting to use something like the Geissele 1.93 mount I'm going to see if that will work |
|
Quoted: If you use the absolute co-witness Giessele mount at 1.41" rail to optic center sight line you'll end up close to 1.93 anyway using an M5S without any spacer. Which is the rub. Don't start out with a 1.93" mount you'll be sitting sky-high. Thanks |

Quoted: I have a spare 1.42 Scalaworks mount because I ended up changing out to 1.57 mount on my 3 T2's. So by what you're saying is I should end up with 1.67 if I use it for a M5s? That's probably a good height. Less than an 1/8" difference? |
|
Okay just to eliminate assumptions, the difference in height of the bare optic between the M5S and the M5 is 10mm, or 0.4 inches.
The factory spacer for the M5S is therefore 10mm, or 0.4 inches, shorter than the factory spacer for the T-1/T-2/M5. So using the Scalarworks absolute co-witness 1.42” for the M5 would have you at 1.82” for the M5S. |

Quoted:
Yeah I see your point about not being fixated on absolute co-witness or lower-third, etc. Especially with your intentions regarding a QD mount and quick removal in the event of a dead optic. I was just stating all that for informational purposes for others who have a need or preference for some sort of co-witnessing. Some people prefer consistent heights for muscle memory purposes. For certain if you feel the M5 direct-mounted without any riser to a standard base mount might sit too low, you could either obtain an M5S spacer somehow, or just go with the M5S itself without any spacer. I know you know this but just reminding you that the battery tube position is much better on the M5S than the M5. Quoted:

Got my m5s
Does this built in spacer come off ?? Or is it not mean to? Fits fine on my Bobro micro lower 1/3rd Mount with the built in spacer Also was told by Aimpoint cs that there are 3 big manufacturers who will be producing mounts for the m5s at next shot show and the Aimpoint m5b will be built like the m5s battery compartment and all which is helping push for more mounts since the m5s and m5b will be sharing same mounts From left to right Aimpoint m5s with spacer on a absolute cowitness Mount Aimpoint t1 on a Geissele 1.93 mount Aimpoint t1 on a lower 1/3rd Mount With the m5s with spacer on absolute cowitness Mount it’s a bit taller than the micro on the Geissele 1.93 mount it seems I put the knife on the m5s since the battery being in the optic was weighing it down to the side |

Does it slide off or is the spacer screwed on? @tfisch67 |

Thanks What Mount do you have your m5s on? |
|
Quoted:
aimpoint only sells the m5s with factory Mount Quoted:
Quoted: Good! I'm getting closer to wanting to buy one of these, I just haven't seen it for sale anywhere without the mount. I've seen the regular M5 available without the mount, just not the M5S. |
|
Quoted:
Me neither but getting my hands on a m5s was still worth it Quoted:
Quoted: That's what I've been seeing so far, and that kind of sucks because I'll never have a use for the factory mount. |
